PRESS RELEASE

LUCAN SARSFIELDS’ LOTTO GOES INTO CYBERSPACE

Lucan Sarsfields, one of Dublin’s largest GAA clubs, based in west Co. Dublin has just announced that it is launching its weekly Lotto Draw to the world.

The weekly lotto draw was, up to now, based on a physical ticket purchase. Now players from anywhere in the world can enter the Lucan Sarsfields lotto draw online through the Lucan Sarsfields web page www.lucansarsfields.ie

Speaking at the launch, lottery coordinator Seamus Clandillon said that the weekly lotto draw will now be much more exciting with three ways to play. He said that since the beginning of Lucan Sarsfields’ Lotto, players entered by physically buying a ticket. “Three years ago”, Seamus continued, “the club initiated a direct debit scheme for members and a once-off monthly direct debit ensured that your numbers were in each week. We continue to encourage all our members to play the lotto this way. However with this new initiative, members and friends now also have the option of playing the lotto online and providing much needed support to one of Dublin’s fastest growing clubs”.

One of the first GAA clubs in Dublin, Lucan Sarsfields has grown with the population of Lucan and now boasts 1,600 members playing all four GAA codes – football, hurling, camogie and ladies football. Fielding over sixty teams is an enormous task both physically and financially; and the club’s volunteers fundraise through various events during the year.

Club Chairman, Michael Roche, said that the club Lotto is an easy way for club members and parents of juvenile players to help the club financially and have a chance of winning up to €20,000 in the jackpot. ”With the rapid growth of the club”, he said, “ we need more and more facilities which unfortunately, in today’s world, cost more and more. As Seamus said, we actively encourage families to enter the Lotto by Direct Debit. The option of entering the Lotto online adds a new dimension to the club.  “In addition to the weekly increasing jackpot”, he said, “10 people each week get pulled out in the lucky dip and win €20 for their trouble”. “We have all heard of brown envelopes” he continued jokingly, “and all of our winners eagerly await their brown envelope with the winnings in their letterbox.”

Officiating at the launch, which was held in conjunction with a Presentation made to Lucan Sarsfields players who played in the various codes and age groups for Dublin during the year, was Lucan’s own Derek Mooney. A club member and father of juvenile players, Derek’s wife Edel is one of a band of volunteers who each Sunday night officiate at the Lotto Draw. Derek said “with this new initiative, people from all over the world, friends of Lucan Sarsfields or indeed club members on holiday can have their entries in the draw, on time, every week. I know that I still haven’t yet won the big one but I am still trying!”                                                                                                                         ../
