MAIGH CUILINN are Junior B County Champions

November 7, 2018

MAIGH CUILINN won the Junior B County Championship yesterday by defeating Athenry in Tuam Stadium yesterday.  On a very cold afternoon Maigh Cuilinn got the better of Athenry in the replay of the  Junior B County Championship.  The score was 2-8 to 1-8 and although Moycullen were at one stage 11 points ahead, a very spirited performance by the Athenry lads brought the game down to a 3 point win in the end.
Moycullen started very brightly and went in at half time 8 points to the good (2-5 to 0-3).  Moycullen then tagged on 3 more points at the start of the second half before Athenry got to grips with the game and landed 5 unanswered points.  With only 2 minutes on the clock Athenry were awarded a penalty for an apparent pick off the ground, and this was driven home, to leave it 2-8 to 1-8 and it was game on.  Moycullen won the final kick out and got the ball up the field out of danger and the referee blew the final whistle, much to the delight of the large Moycullen support.

Maigh Cuilinn captain Brian Grant collected the cup while his brother Cillian was the ‘Man of the Match’ after scoring two goals and one point.
On the day every Moycullen player played well and it was great to see Paul Clancy back in a Moycullen jersey again.
Maigh Cuilinn scorers: Cillian Grant shooting 2-1, Caoimhin O’ Donabhain 0-4, Seamus O’Conghaile 0-1 Robaird O’Domhnail 0-2
