MAIGH CUILINN LADIES WIN ON THE DOUBLE !!!

November 7, 2018

Moycullen Ladies football cup picked up two County Championships last Saturday, at U12 and Junior Levels. More titles will surely follow for these two successful teams.

Ladies Junior County Champions 2014 - our Ladies beat Killererin on Saturday evening by 6.10 to 3.3. On a beautiful sunny afternoon in Monivea last Saturday our junior ladies team won their first county championship title. Killererin started strongly and were a goal to no score up after two minutes. However with five minutes gone Moycullen had gone into a one point lead and they never looked back from there. They played a lovely attacking style of football, with quick hands and accurate passing they carved open the Killererin defence time after time. It would be unfair to pick out any individual displays as every single member of the team and panel played their part in a historic win. Team captain Fiona Faherty collected the county trophy after the game and led the team back to Moycullen where they welcomed with a bone fire and celebrations in the Village.

U12 County Champions 2014 - our U12 girls beat Ballinasloe on Saturday Morning 3.6 to 2.5.

In Mountbellew on Saturday morning our U12 girls took on a determined Ballinasloe outfit. The Moycullen girls were on top in the first few minutes of the game but couldn’t score and went in at half time 2pts to 3pts down. However with a team pep talk from manager Gearoid Roche and coach Padraic Oates they came out like a different team in the second half. Goalkeeper Taylor Walsh who made two point blank saves with only the keeper to beat was ably supported by Laura Burke, Cara Oates and Anna Roache who totally curtailed the Ballinasloe full forward line. Our halfbacks were outstanding with Ellen Power and Aine Ni Chainte busy up and down the pitch. Centre half back and player of the game candidate Meabh Mc Manus not only stopped her marker scoring but also went forward and scored an excellent goal. Lukanna NicLoclainn and team captain Amy Higgins were on top in midfield and kept a plentiful supply of ball going through to the forward line where Jane Roache, Lucy Hynes and Ellie Duffy were working hard to set up scores for Moycullen. In the full forward line Michaella Devaney and Ilena Davoren were always busy looking to get on the ball and helping other player of the match candidate Amy Claffey to get two goals and one point. Subs Eva Clancy, Caoimhe Duffy, Deidre Keaveney, Leah Ruane, Aisling Beatty, Fiona Boisin and Ali McDonagh all played an important part in a very good win. No doubt we will be seeing more of these girls in the future.
