Mary Moroney memorial Hurling tournament

November 7, 2018

The Anner Gaels ( St. Patrick's / Fethard ) Under 16 Hurling team which took part in the Tournament.

Saturday last June 28th was a very special day in the calendar of St. Patrick’s Gaa club as Anner Park hosted the annual Mary Moroney Under 16 hurling tournament.

The tournament consisted of four teams: Anner Gaels(St. Pats/Fethard), Silvermines, Moneygal and Ballyneale. In the first Semi Final Moneygall defeated Grangemockler-Ballyneale and in the second semi- final Gortnahoe-Glengoole were too strong for our local team Anner Gaels.  The sheild final between Anner Gaels and Grangemockler-Ballyneale was probably the closest contested game of the day with little between the sides but unfortunately it was Ballyneale who finished the stronger and won by three points. Gortnahoe-Glengoole and Moneygall competed in the Cup Final where the boys from Gortnahoe were the stronger and won well in the end.

After presenting the cup to the Gortnahoe captain and medals to the team Nicholas Moroney  thanked all the players and mentors and all the workers who helped to make the day a great success. He had a special word of thanks to the ladies who did such a wonderful job in  providing food and refreshments to all those present.

A special feature of the day was the under 8 mini hurling game in which St. Patricks had a very narrow victory over Fethard.

Thanks also to referees Paddy Ivors and Philly Keane who refereed the games.

We sincerely thank also all who contributed over €100 to Cancer Care in South Tipperary.

A great day was had by all which was blessed by glorious sunshine.
