Crosshaven Under 9’s V Carrigaline Under 9’s.

Crosshaven welcomed Carrigaline to Camden Road in our first friendly of the season yesterday.

The boys had been complaining all winter about not getting any snow but yesterday they got their wish and in games played in the worst playing conditions since Storm Ophelia, and in mud trenches not seen since World War 1, they acquitted themselves well against a very strong Carrigaline outfit and the games were played in great spirit.

Both teams were unable to play their normal Heavy Metal / Total Football and had to resort to a more traditional unknown 20th century approach, booting the ball at any cost from glue like mud to the next player and playing on the break. Amid cries of “I can’t play in this mud”, and “I can’t see”, they battled on and when the weather suddenly turned to a glorious 25 degrees and not a cloud in the sky for the last two games, both teams provided a very entertaining spectacle for all of the frozen supporters who attended.

Playing four matches and recruiting four players from the Under 8’s (who played great) Crosshaven won one and lost three narrowly but both teams thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon’s football. Crosshaven were very unlucky on quite a few occasions with Carrigaline’s defence proving strong amid some great saves by their keepers.

All in all a great day out and one to remember.
