Match Report : Under 15 Division C Hurling Championship

November 8, 2018

St Vincents 2-3 : 2-3 Raheny

A last minute point from corner forward Martin Hunt gave the B`s a well deserved draw in our opening match in this year`s championship.

Playing in St Annes 9, we got off to the perfect start when a speculative shot from distance by Gary O`Meara deceived the Raheny goalkeeper and ended up in the back of the net. Gary followed up with a point and another goal while Martin Hunt put over a neat point. Raheny`s response was two points to leave the half time score at 2-2 to 0-2.

Like us in the first half, Raheny scored an early goal at the start of the second half, followed by another goal to level matters. Another point from Raheny put them ahead for the first time in the match. Our defence ably led by Stephen `Tony` Brooks and with our half back line of Matthew Garland, Declan Kelly and James Cooke in outstanding form managed to keep the Raheny forwards at bay. Our midfield, with Shane Perry in particular, got to grips with the game and initiated many attacks but our forwards struggled to get the equalising score. With time ticking away it looked like we were not destined to get the score our play richly deserved until up popped Martin Hunt, gathering the ball about 30 yards out and sweetly striking it over the bar. As well as those already mentioned, Michael Concar, Adam O`Connor and our two scorers, Gary O`Meara and Martin Hunt, played their part.

The team and subs should get great credit for the fantastic effort and commitment they displayed throughout the match.
