Kentstown were 2 down within 15 minutes to the Premier Division,Trim Celtic but Kentstown gathered themself and produced a strong performance but couldnt find a second goal after Dean Rennicks scored.Good team performance in 1/4 final of the Cup.

Kentstown’s Senior team shot into the 1/4 final of the Challenge Cup with a fine home win over Dundalk outfit,Glenmuir Celtic from the Premier Division.
It is the Rovers 2nd Premier Division scalp after they knocked Torro out in the last round.Derek Bowens opened the scoring with a fine Passing team move and David Bowens added a second near the end from the peno spot.The 2 time winners had a great team performance with Shaun Doyle,David Bowens,Colin Lynch and Conor Cowley to the fore.

Perfect conditions for playing football this morning. match kicked off at 1030am with the home side last to settle, walshestown pressuring from the whistle and making the kentstown defence work hard. at 6 minutes the tide turned when kentstown broke away playing through the thirds and remembering their training, LUKE HOLOHAN on the left wing ,SEAN COMMONS in the middle and CATHAL HICKEY on the right combine to allow SEAN COMMONS to slot home his first of the day.walshestown worked hard to get back in the match but kentstown were now in the driving seat and were not letting it happen as sean commons scores his second goal at 15 minutes.
LUKE HOLOHAN leaves the field at half time through injury, this is unusual for him as he is normally in the thick of the attack and is one of the leading goal-scorers this season to boot, LUKE is replaced by SORCHA GOUGH, our latest recruit to the team and the only girl playing, but this girl plays like she has been with us forever placing the ball wherever it is needed and tackling like a player with many more years under her belt. CATHAL HICKEY is putting in his usual star performance today, he is all over the field making passes everywhere and letting nothing by him, he is widely acknowledged as a stalward on the team.
the second half opens much like the first with walshestown coming out very strong but quickly out of nothing comes a ball overhead from our number 1 JOSEPH MOORE straight to CATHAL HICKEY who unselfishly passes to SEAN COMMONS and we are 3-0 up. the kentstown defence is under great pressure but they hold well with SIMON ROONEY as always leading by example(and a former player of the year) at the back on the right ably assisted by captain for the day JAMIE KIRWAN. JAMIE deserves a special mention for playing through pain as he is carrying injury but refuses to let the team down. DYLAN BAGNALL comes in for CATHAL HICKEY on the right and immediately imposes himself with the silky passes he is now famous for. things go from bad to worse for walshestown when SEAN COMMONS puts home number 4 and we are sailing. SEAN NOLAN comes on for kentstown and is playing like he was born on this field with a kentstown jersey on , he is cool and calm under pressure and always makes the right move, playing the ball up the line, making the crucial pass, always under the attacking players feet and never ever giving up. ADAM MAHON is getting through a huge amount of work today, the ball wont fall for a goal for him but he wont let his team down , he is working like a king for his fellow players.
RYAN ASHE our usual left sided defender comes into play late for JAMIE KIRWAN who had played his legs off for us. ashe is doing his usual sterling work when a decision in the box gifts walshestown with a possible consolation penalty. JOSEPH MOORE SAYS NO, our number 1 dives to his left and denies the walshestown striker with the save of the season for kentstown, this from a man who in a previous game against grove rangers managed to keep a clean sheet in goal and come out to score a hat trick in the opposition goal (you wouldnt believe it unless you saw it).
it doesnt get much better when again through the thirds comes COMMONS , NOLAN and BAGNALL, its 3 players on 1 as COMMONS passes expertly to BAGNALL who slots home his first of the season for kentstown and now its 5-0.
the referee , derek gaff finally calls a halt to the proceedings and kentstown march on with 3 more points in the bag, second place in the league to boyne rovers who have 11 games played and 28 points on the board, kentstown have 9 games played with 24 points on the board and still in the CUP with a quarter final game to come against a sister team of today’s opposition, walshestown wolves.
