Mayo defeat Clare in floodlight opener

November 7, 2018

Mayo…1-14

Clare..1-8

There were some bright spots on the horizon for Mayo when they defeated Paidi O’Se’s Clare in a senior football challenge to mark the official opening of the new floodlights at Flanagan Park, Ballinrobe, on Saturday night.

Ballina Stephenites’ wing-back Enda Devenney impressed with an action-packed display that saw him pick off two points and powered Mayo to the Tim Kelly Engineering Floodlit Cup.

And teenage centre half-forward Aidan Campbell also showed that he might have something to offer John O’Mahony as the season progresses.

A Mark Ronaldson goal after 27 minutes put Mayo in the driving seat, and he had a chance to add a second but his second-half penalty was saved by Clare ‘keeper Joe Hayes.
