The Minors suffered a heart-breaking defeat in the final on Sunday. After withstanding an onslaught from Fenagh in the first half, we were happy to retire level on 0-5 apiece at half-time. Brilliant shot-stopping by goalie Melvyn Kinch, wayward shooting by Fenagh and some very accurate score-taking by our forwards kept us in the game. On 43 minutes we took the lead for the first time at 0-8 to 0-7. When Fenagh broke through for 2 quick goals we responded with a great Keith Bowes goal to make it 2-9 to 1-9 on 55 minutes. But Fenagh hit 3-1 in the last 5 to give them a flattering win.
We congratulate Fenagh on winning back-to-back Minor Championships. Well done also to our own lads for having a great year and for all your dedication and committment – you attracted many admirers with your wholehearted performance in the final. To the Mentors, John Connolly, Jamie Doyle, Johnny Maguire and Mick Keogh we say thanks for leaving no stone unturned to bring this team to a rare County Final appearance for the club.
