Minor "B" Championship: Tinryland 3-11 Clonmore 0-10

November 8, 2018

Tinryland wasted no time in this game with centre back, Rory Doyle, pointing within the opening thirty seconds followed minutes later with the first of a 1-8 tally from wing forward, Ronan Curran.

Jake Hickey opened the scores for Clonmore in the eight minute but Curran was on fire sticking over another three points in quick succession. Things went from bad to worse for Clonmore as Josh Bowes misjudged a hop at centre back to allow Tinryland full forward, Michael Debosz, to run through on goals and eventually be dragged down in the box to win a penalty for his team.

Man of the hour, Curran, stood up to the plate and placed the ball low and to the left of Clonmore’s Melvin Kinch to put his team at 1-7 to 0-2. Debosz was soon helped off the field after a hamstring tear just before the end of the first half to leave it 1-7 to 0-3 at the break.

Clonmore seemed to have come out into the second half with something to prove with a quick score from Francis Whelan and some heavy pressure on the Tinryland back six, however, Tinryland replied quickly with a team worked goal which was finally placed in the back of the net by wing back, Tommy Dunne.

Clonmore soaked up a lot of pressure from Tinryland after the goal with big performances from full back Rory McKiernan and goalkeeper Melvin Kinch who pulled off two important saves to keep the home side in it.

Tinryland pressure eventually eased up giving Clonmore their ten minutes to try and turn the game around. After a few points from Clonmore, full Forward, Daniel Quigley, pulled a goal chance out of nowhere with a shot from outside the box sailing for the back of the net, however, Tinryland’s Keane Nolan denied Clonmore the three points with a diving save.

Clonmore began to fatigue in the last five minutes while Tinryland moved forward as a unit and could have kept going for another ten minutes. A goal from substitute Rory Moore and another flurry of points from Curran put the nail in the coffin with the game ending 3-11 to 10 points.
