MINOR HURLING south final

November 7, 2018

Last weekend was a mixed couple of days for our teams. First up in action was our minor team who played in the South Final last Saturday in Fethard where Clerihan were the opponents. Clerihan started the better team and were 5 points to 3 up when disaster struck as the Clerihan full forward struck for a goal followed by a point from a free which left us 6 points behind after 20 minutes. By half time we managed to bring the deficit back to 4. With the wind at our backs we were hopeful that would help us cut the lead in the second half. However by the 5th minute of the half Clerihan had stretched the lead out to 5.That was as bad as it got as our lads took control for the rest of the game and outscored Clerihan for the final 20 minutes by 1-10 to 0-1 with Jessie McCormack getting the final touch of a Conor Harrington free for the goal to leave the final score 1-19 to 1-12 to give Anner Gaels their first ever title since combining a number of years ago. We would like to congratulate the players and the management team of Micheál Broderick, James Ryan, Tony O'Brien and Michael Healy on their success. They now await the winners of the Mid in the County Semi Final. The winning team on the day was: James Fitzgerald, Harry Butler, Michael Boland, Thomas O'Brien, Ryan Walsh, Eoin Ryan, Stephen Crotty, Barry O'Dwyer, Conor Duggan, Frank Meagher, Conor Harrington, Darragh Hurley, Robert Hackett, Jamie Broderick, Sean Ryan, Jack Dolan, Jessie McCormack, Mikey O'Brien, Niall Mockler.
