Minor League FINAL: Clonmore 2-5 Rathvilly 3-9

November 8, 2018

Having been beaten 3-15 to 0-4 by Rathvilly only two weeks ago, this was a completely different story and the Minors did themselvers proud with a brave and battling display.

With a few players just out of u-14 ranks, Clonmore were definitely smaller and younger than the opposition but that didn't stop them tearing into them from the start. Led by stronger lads like Jordan Kane, Anthony, Andrew & Adam Byrne and Dale McNamara they played some lovely football and were unlucky to be a point behind at half-time – 2-2 to 2-1 – having played against a strong wind.

Unfortunately, in the second half the wind died down and worse was to follow when, with the scores at 2-3 to 2-2, the best player on the pitch, Jordan Kane, was send off for a second yellow card offence. The lads continued to battle gamely but the loss of Jordan was a big blow and Rathvilly pulled away in the end.

Apart from the lads already mentioned, Michael Kealy was outstanding in goal, Sean Doyle and Tom Cashin tried hard in the backs and Jason Byrne and Frank Whelan were lively forwards.

Team: Michael Kealy, Joe Hickey, Tom Cashin, Larry Doyle, Josh Bowes, Andrew Byrne, Sean Doyle, Anthony Byrne, Jordan Kane, Chris Murray, Adam Byrne (0-3, 3f), Sean Foley, Frank Whelan (1-0), Dale McNamara (1-1), Jason Byrne. Subs: CJ Wybrant, Jonathon Byrne (0-1), Adam Doyle.
