On Friday evening last, Edenderry GAA welcomed the National Coaching Co-ordinator Paudie Butler to the club. Paudie arrived at 6pm and didn’t leave the clubhouse until 9.30pm having spent 3 and a half hours coaching our U12 Hurlers and spending time discussing coaching methods with many of our underage coaches.
The evening began on the field with Paudie putting the U12’s through their paces using various drills to re-enforce his message of constant movement and always working with the hurl & ball.
The young players were exhausted by 8pm when the session came to an end and as they moved inside for refreshments Paudie spent the next 20 minutes quizzing the coaches present as to their thoughts on the evenings session.
As the coaches moved indoors for a welcome cup of tea and sandwich, Paudie continued to listen to the coaches and impart some of his knowledge of the game.
To round off the evening, Edenderry GAA presented Paudie with a momento of his visit in the shape of a statue of Cuchullain. He then proceeded to tell all the players present how Setanta had killed the “Hound of Cullen” and became known as Cuchullain. He told the children Cuchullain had been the Champion hurler in
