CROTTA LEISURE CYCLISTS
There will be up to 50 cyclists from Abbeydorney and Kilflynn who cycle with the Crotta Cyclists, taking part in the Annual Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle of 112 miles on next Saturday July 2nd. This is the biggest charity cycle in the country with 5,000 cyclists taking part in this the 28th year of the event. The local cyclists have been in serious training over the past few months and can be seen on various roads all around North Kerry. There are quite a few newcomers from the area who will be attempting this arduous cycle for the first time and we wish them all the best of luck. They are collecting for a number of very worthy charities, so if you know a cyclist who is cycling the Ring of Kerry please sponsor them.

They beat Ballyheighue, Causeway and Ballyduff. They lost to eventual winners Abbeydorney but overall they played very well. Crotta U13: Our U13 team qualified for the U13 County League Final with a 5-06 to 1-08 over near neighbours Lixnaw in Dromakee on Wednesday evening last. Playing with a lively wind to their backs Crotta took a bit to settle but once Cathal Kennelly ran at the Lixnaw defence and finished to the net they upped their performance. Cathal was to get another brace of goals and a scrambled effort that looked to be last touched by Adam O’Sullivan gave Crotta a half-time lead of 4-04 to 0-04. Lixnaw piled on the pressure after the break, backed by the breeze but the defence stood solid. Lixnaw outscored Crotta in the second half but never really threatened the half-time lead. Scorers: Cathal Kennelly(4-02) Adam O’Sullivan(1-01) Barry Mahony(0-02) Darragh Kennelly(0-01). Crotta now meet Ardfert in the Final which is a repeat of last years U12 final.

KILFLYNN VINTAGE CLUB
The sun shone brightly on Saturday June 18th and Sunday June 19th in Kilflynn village for what can only be described as one on the most successful rallies ever to take place in Kilflynn. It all began Saturday evening when over 90 tractors and 40 cars took part in the annual road run. The participants returned to the village for some well deserved refreshments after and a great night of entertainment. On Sunday morning we were once again blessed the glorious weather conditions. Over 120 tractors, 50 cars, vintage motorbikes, stationary engines, threshers, steam engine and much more were on display. Entertainment for families was provided throughout the day with the highlight for children being the debut appearance of Tom Fitzmaurice’s “Blue Barrell Train”. The Kilflynn Choir took to the stage in the afternoon to a huge audience. The day would not be possible without the help of our sponsors, all those who helped in any way and all those who came out in force to support our annual event. A huge thanks goes to all those people and we hope to see each and every one of you back again next year for a bigger and better weekend!

SHANNOW BROWNIES NEWS
Shannow Brownies have had a great year. Since returning last September it has been an action-packed year. The girls have earned many merit badges and taken part in many local, district and national activities.
2011 sees us celebrating the Centenary of Guiding in Ireland. The celebrations continue to the end of the year. Since January we have been to the Panto, tree-planting in Tralee Town Park for Thinking Day, St Patrick’s Day Parades in Kilflynn and Tralee, Ecumenical Service in Tralee. On May 7th we travelled to Semple Stadium in Thurles for Bailiu, a fun-day out for all Guiding branches. We joined over 6,000 members for an absolutely brilliant day.
The girls entered a national competition to design a Thinking Day card and what an achievement it was when our own Emma Carmody received 2nd prize from the International Committee. Congratulations Emma.
We finished for the year last Thursday night and the girls earned their Hostess merit badge by serving tea and coffee and lots of nice cakes to their parents. We are marching in the Rose of Tralee Festival parade on August
