News round up from Sunday April 5th

November 8, 2018

Greenfields’ luck ran dry this weekend, as both the 1sts and the 2nd bowed out of their respective cup competitions.
In the Connacht Junior Cup Semi-Final, our 2nds faced a stronger Renmore side.  Although they made huge efforts to put one past the Renmore keeper, the final score was 4 – 0 to Renmore.
They go forward to meet Knocknacarra in the Final on Saturday next April 11th at 12 noon.

In the Connacht Senior Cup Competition, this second-leg match against Galway 2nds was hotly contested.  Greenfields 1sts went into the game carrying forward their winning score (one-nil), from the first-leg.  Galway equalised early on from a penalty stroke, & then went ahead by a goal, before Katie Codyre found the back of the net.  Another goal from Galway was followed by an equaliser from Lesley O’Flynn.  By full time, it was still three-all, so extra time of 10mins each way was played.
A short corner for Galway saw them fire home an unstoppable shot at goal.
For the remaining minutes, try as they might, Greenfields could not equalise.
And so the final score of 4 – 3 gave Galway 2nds their place in the Final.

They meet their own 1sts on Saturday next April 11th at 2pm.
