This East Kerry Division 1 final was played in ideal conditions on Friday night last in Lewis Road. Kilcummin opened brightly with a goal shot which was brilliantly saved by Denis Reen, Kilcummin converted the resulting 45 through the boot of Richie O’ Connor. In the 4th minute Rathmore opened the scoring with a Shane O’ Keeffe point, and in the 5th minute Paul Reen goaled to leave Rathmore leading 1-01 to 0-01. Kilcummin fought back and in the 6th minute when O’ Connor pointed again. Rathmore’s James Doherty kept 3 points between the teams with another point in the 9th minute. Mid way through the half another O’ Connor point kept Kilcummin in touch. Rathmore finished the half strongly with points from Paul Reen and Michael O’ Sullivan. Leaving the half time score Rathmore 1-04 Kilcummin 0-03.
Rathmore opened the second half with a Donal Casey point within the first minute. Kilcummin tacked on two points through O’ Connor in the 3rd minute and David Brosnan in the 6th minute. But then Rathmore took over the game and dominated the entire half. A Dermie Fitzgerald free in the 8th minute left Rathmore leading 1-06 to 0-05. Donal Lehane scored an excellent point in the 9th minute, while another Fitzgerald free put Rathmore 6 points ahead. Paul Reen scored a brace of points in the 19th and 21st minute, and another Fitzgerald point in the 26th minute made sure there was no way back for Kilcummin. A great solo run by Shane O’ Keeffe ended with another Rathmore point in the 28th minute. Then in the last two minutes Rathmore tacked on another two points thanks to Paul Reen and Mark Kelleher, leaving Rathmore convincing winners on a score line of 1-14 to 0-05. The James Doyle cup was presented to the Rathmore captain John Joe Murphy.

Rathmore 4-14 Austin Stacks 1-07
This division 1 Junior County League semi final was played in Spa on Sunday night. Stacks scored a point within the first 30 seconds of the half, but this was as good as it got for the Tralee side. Rathmore ripped them apart with beautiful passing moves that finished with great scores. Two frees by Jerry Murphy in the 2nd and 4th minute opened Rathmore’s account. The classy Paul Reen scored a point in the 5th minute and his brother Patrick goaled in the 8th minute to leave Rathmore 1-04 Stacks 0-01. Rathmore missed a few chances in the next couple attacks but in the 16th minute Conor O’ Sullivan goaled from a quick free by Jerry Murphy. Now Rathmore stepped up the tempo and Paul Reen scored 3 lovely points in the 18th, 20th and 23rd minute. But Stacks didn’t give up and they scored 3 points towards the end of the half to leave the half time score Rathmore 2-07 Austin Stacks 0-04.
At the start of the second half there was a glimmer of hope for Stacks when they goaled in the 3rd minute as the ball deflected of Rathmore’s Owen Doherty. Jerry Murphy pointed frees in the 8th and 9th minute to leave Rathmore leading 2-09 to 1-04. Then in the 10th minute Patrick Reen scored his second goal of the night to end the game as a contest. In the 11th minute Conor O’ Sullivan pointed and Stacks converted two frees in the 13th and 15th minute. Paul Reen added another point and in the 18th minute Conor O’ Sullivan got his second goal. Rathmore now leading 4-11 to 1-06. Rathmore registered another three points through a free from Jerry Murphy, and points from Michael A Kelleher and Mark Nagle. Stacks got a consolation point in the last minute to finish out the game. So it’s on to the final for Rathmore against the winners of Listowel and Kerins O Rahillys. Final score Rathmore 4-14 Austin Stacks 1-07.
