OFFALY & ‘REDS’ LEGENDS CALL ON EDENDERRY GAELS TO ATTEND 1985 REUNION & AWARDS NIGHT

Edenderry and Offaly legends spanning and era of over 50 years came together to promote the Edenderry GAA Awards night and 1985 Reunion taking place in Edenderry GAA Centre FRIDAY 26TH NOVEMBER from 7.30 pm .

 

The former stars Sean Foran, Tommy Cullen, Mickey Brady, Gerry Carroll, Peter Brady and Finbarr Cullen were very glad to come together last Saturday to promote the Club’s upcoming event.  All of whom shall be in attendance next Friday and playing a central role in the evenings proceedings.  The former stars were keen to extend an invitation to all Edenderry Gaels to attend what promises to be a great occasion in the Pavilion.  The night includes the Clubs annual Awards along with a Reunion for the successful Senior Team of ’85 that captured the Clubs first title for 28 years and the successful Minor and U14 Hurling Team of the same year.

 

Gerry Carroll, All-Ireland winner in ‘82, home from America for the occasion, was keen to encourage all of his teammates from the 1985 team to attend.  This was echoed by Peter Brady another member of the set-up in ’85.  Finbarr Cullen a member of the U14 hurling team that great year hoped to see plenty of his former colleagues at the Reunion along with members of the successful Minor team. 

 

David Farrell, Club PRO explained that no official letters or invites went out to the ’85 teams and committee but that the Club was extending an OPEN invitation to all teams and committee members from ’85 in addition to all current and past members of the Club.  This was reiterated by Club Chairman, Colm Cummins who requested that for everyone to spread the word this week about the event and encourages all Gaels to make the effort to attend.

 

In addition the Football & Hurling stars of today included the successful Ladies Team will also be honoured with the former greats Sean Foran, Mickey Brady, Tommy Cullen and Gerry Carroll presenting all of the player of the year awards.  Sean, Mickey and Tommy are especially looking forward to the occasion and the opportunity to catch up with old friends.  Kevin Farrell will be acting as MC for the evening a role he is very accustomed.  Kevin was also in attendance at the launch and he said he was really looking forward to the evening and that it was great to have big functions back in the GAA Pavilion.
