Walsh Island 1—17 Ballycumber 2—12.
An interesting fact of this game was that both teams accumulated the same score while playing up towards the dressing rooms end of Cappincur pitch. Walsh Island scored 1—11 in the first half and Ballycumber scored 2—8 in the second. Unfortunately for Ballycumber their first half total of 4points was two less than Walsh Island scored in the second half. While the wind was a factor, it appeared to be blowing across the pitch rather than favouring one direction. The Ballycumber performance in the first half was most disappointing, with missed placed passes and a lack of determination in securing possession. Peter Dunne and Rory Guinan[3] accounted for the scores. Colm Quinn scored a point at the start of the second half and was followed by a Rory Guinan pointed free and the same player converted a controversial penalty in the 11th minute. Adrian Kelly kicked two points from play in the 12th and 14th minute. Rory pointed a free and Keith Lawler got a point which could have been a goal. Rory and Keith got a point each from play before Ritchie Dunne, who had been replaced earlier due to illness and came back on towards the end of the game, got on the end of a good move and put the ball in the back of the net. The final whistle sounded soon afterwards and the preparations for the next game against St. Rynaghs in Ferbane on Sunday 15th May at 3pm will have to be intense. Team. While our focus was on the game in Cappincur a few of our members remained at home to host the Offaly Intermediate Football Championship match between Shannonbridge and Durrow. We thank them for dedication and also both Clubs and the patrons of the weekly Bingo session in Ballycumber Community Centre for their cooperation. Ballycumber/Tubber under 14 footballers were also playing in Cloghan on the same evening, so a busy evening.
