Offaly U21 Hurling Final

Coolderry and Seir Kieran Óg must meet again

Coolderry           2-9

Seir Kieran Óg 1-12

Coolderry and Seir Kieran Óg played out a very entertaining draw in the final of the Offaly U21 Hurling Championship in Crinkill on Saturday evening last.

A James Mulrooney point in the 2nd minute of injury time gave Seir Kieran Óg a second bite at the cherry.  Seir Kieran Óg started the livelier but four wides from their first four attacks gave Coolderry an opportunity to settle into the game.  The games opening goal came in the 7th minute when Kevin Connolly set up Stephen O’Connor for a well taken Coolderry goal.  Coolderry were 1-2 to 0-3 in front when Drumcullen’s Alan Maher goaled for Seir Kieran Óg in the 20th minute.  But two minutes later Eoin Ryan goaled for Coolderry to leave his side 2-4 to 1-4 ahead at the break.

On the resumption scores were evenly distributed between the sides with Seir Kieran Óg failing to narrow the gap beyond the two point margin until a Thomas Carroll point left the minimum between the sides with time almost up.  In the last attack of the game Seir Kieran Óg captain James Mulrooney fired over his 7th point of the game to send it to a replay.

Coolderry hit a total of 12 wides to Seir Kieran  Óg’s 11
