Olafs win u21 replay

November 8, 2018

Olaf’s under 21 hurlers had an outstanding win against Ballinteer St Johns in the under 21 championship by 1-10 to 0-12, in another match that went all the way to the wire. Olafs started the game really well and were well on top early on. But they failed to take some very good chances and with all their advantage they only one point, before Johns got into the game. Then Johns went four point s to one up before Olafs started to get back at them with two great points by Declan O Dwyer. At half time it was St Johns winning by 6 to 5. In the second half and with a strong wind behind them Olafs hit back and Donal Kinsella and Richie McDonald at midfield started to get on top. A goal from a long range free by Donal Kinsella that went all the way to the net was the vital score for Olafs and this was added to by a super point from the sideline by Simon Hickey. But Johns were never far behind with their free taker hardly missing a shot we only led by only two points with minutes remaining. Johns had two great chances of goals in those remaining minutes with one shot just missing the goal by inches and another great effort being brilliantly saved by John Whelans the Olafs goalie. The two teams defences were in outstanding form and nothing soft was given away. Fergal Martin at center back and the young and ever improving Colin Kyne Delaney at corner back were in brilliant form and must have shared the man of the match award. Others to shine were David Howley Gavin Stapleton in the Olafs defence. So this long running and most interesting saga ends and Olafs now go on to play Thomas Davis in the South Dublin final next Saturday, with the winners going on to play the winners of North Dublin in the Dublin County Final.
