The finals of our under 12 Parish league were played in Cloneen on Sunday last which was a pleasant afternoon for football. The Shield final was first to be played with Conor Duggan’s Donegal team taking on Eoin Ryan’s Mayo team. Mayo had the better of the open exchanges and were soon in the lead with an Eoin Ryan goal. Two more goals from Eoin had Mayo cruising before Jack Meagher pulled one back for Donegal with a well taken goal. Conor Duggan and Dale Murphy exchanged points before Aidan Fitzgerald goaled to leave the score Mayo 4-1 to Donegal’s 1-1 at halftime. The second half saw Donegal pick up their game substantially and were soon back on level terms after goals from Adam Cuddihy and Tommy O’Brien. Further goals from Conor Duggan and Adam Cuddihy put them well ahead and despite Dale Murphy pulling one goal back for mayo it was Donegal who ran out deserving winners in what was a well played sporting game of football.
The second game saw Frank Meagher’s Cork team take on James Fitzgerald’s Dublin team in the cup final. A Niamh Keane goal opened the scoring for the Cork team before Jamie Brett and Pauric O’Brien added two more goals for cork. Caoimhe Ryan got one goal back for Dublin and James Fitzgerald then added another goal and a point for the Dublin side. However Cork’s Frank Meagher and Niamh Keane were dominating centre field and Cork soon started clocking up the scores and were 7-7 to 3-1 ahead at halftime. Cork continued their dominance in the second-half with well taken goals and points from Matt McCormack, Frank Meagher, Niamh Keane and Cathal Foley. For the Dublin side James Fitzgerald and Caoimhe Ryan added more scores while in the backs James Horan, Jack Cuddihy, Ryan Cranitch and Eoghan Fitzgerald did their best to keep out the onslaught of Cork attacks. But it was to be Cork’s day and Frank Meagher collected the Cup on behalf of the winning team.

We thank those who were mentors of teams, refereed games or officiated as linesmen or umpires during our Parish league. We thank the parents who came to support their children and also for their support throughout the year as this brings an end to our under 10 and under 12 action for this year 2012.
