County League:  Rathmore 2-12 Kilcummin 1-04

Rathmore started the year with an impressive win in Kilcummin on Sunday last. Kilcummin opened the scoring in the 2nd minute thanks to the free taking of Eammon O’ Donoghue, but in the 4th minute Rathmore stormed into the game, and a great move ended with Stephen Lehane pointing. Brendan Kealy made a super save from George O’ Keeffe in the eighth minute, now Rathmore were on top in all sectors of the field. A brilliant point from Aidan O’ Mahony pushed them ahead, a pointed free from Michael Riordan and a point from Damien Casey left Rathmore leading 0-04 to 0-01. An excellent executed goal by Michael Riordan set Rathmore on their way in the 15th minute. Rathmore finished the half with points from Damien Casey, Michael Riordan (free), and George O’ Keeffe.

An Eammon O’ Donoghue free opened the second half scoring, Rathmore replied with a Damien Casey free. Now Kilcummin notched up a few scores hitting 1-02 thanks to a goal and a pointed free by Eammon O’ Donoghue, and a point by John Devane. Rathmore upped their game again with slick passing moves that resulted in points by Michael Riordan and Damien Casey. In the 20th minute Conor O’ Sullivan’s goal left the score Rathmore 2-10 Kilcummin 1-04. Towards the end of the game Kilcummin’s Tommy Cooper received his marching orders from referee Aidan Mangan, this opened up more scoring chances for Rathmore which Michael O’ Riordan and George O’ Keeffe pointed, leaving Rathmore run out convincing winners.
