St. Patrick’s Gaa club extends it’s deepest sympathy to the McCormack family on the death of Maura McCormack, Magoury. The McCormack family have played a huge role in our club for many years.
Maura’s late husband Tom McCormack was involved with the club in the early years and was mentor to many teams in the forties and fifties. Having been blessed with a family of 14 children the McCormack family’s involvement in the club was set to last many years as their sons played for the club at every level from juvenile to senior in both hurling and football.
Indeed over the last thirty or forty years or even longer it’s not too many St. Patrick’s teams that were fielded that Maura McCormack did not have a son or grandson or indeed great-grandson involved in. Her granddaughters and great-granddaughters are also currently playing with our recently formed ladies football club.
Many of the family continued to play a part in the club beyond their playing careers as coaches and team mentors. Maura’s son Tomas has served as chairman of our club on two occassion and her son Eugene is presently vice chairman of our club. Maura’s grandson Jimmy O’Brien is the current chairman of our club and Maura’s daughter Ann is the current assistent -sectretary.
A one way traffic system was operated on Magoury boreen for the huge crowd which called to the family home to pay their last respects to Maura. Her remains were removed to Drangan Parish church for funeral mass on saturday morning august 25th and she was layed to rest in the church grounds in the family plot. As a tribute to Maura’s dedication to her family her 30 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren formed a guard of honour from the church to her graveside.
To Maura’s sons and daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and to the extended family and friends we extend our deepest sympathy.
