Recent Bereavements

November 7, 2018

The St. Patrick’s Gaa Club would like to extend it’s deepest sympathies to the following families who have lost loved ones recently.

To the O’Dwyer family Corbally, Drangan on the death of Jimmy O’Dwyer, Corbally. Jimmy had a great love for Gaa and was a great supporter of club and county. His niece Cathrine Ryan is a member of our Gaelic for mothers team and his grandnephews Sean, James and Bill are all playing with juvenile teams in our club. Another grand nephew of Jimmy’s Thomas O’Donohoe of Lattin/Cullen was a member of the Tipperary county minor team that won the all-Ireland Minor football final in 2011.

Jimmy was also a very active member of our community especially in the running of our local community centre in Drangan. Jimmy devoted over 40 years of his life to working for Drangan Community Centre and was the last surviving member of the original trustees of the hall which was previously the Slievenamon Hall. Along with the late John Clancy and Cannon James ORahilly. Jimmy signed on the dotted line when the hall was purchased from Drangan Creamery. Over the years Jimmy worked hard to improve facilities both inside and outside the hall and served as Treasurer for the next 30 or so years. Jimmy had been one of the main organizers of the weekly Progressive 25 Game which was originally on Sunday nights but in recent years had moved to Thursday nights. Jimmy was also one of the chief organizers of the fortnightly whist drives on Monday nights and was always available to lock up after the card games were over which could have been anytime from 11.00pm to 2.00am. All this was done with a smile and a cheerful word for all as well as a positive response to any request for help.

As a mark of respect prayers for Jimmy were recited at the weekly Progressive 25 game on Thursday last. Many of his former card playing colleagues from Drangan, Cloneen and the neighboring parishes paid their last respects at his funeral in Drangan on Wednesday last.

Men like Jimmy only pass our way once in a lifetime but they leave a lasting and valuable footprint. May the soul of Jimmy O’Dwyer rest in peace.

The St. Patrick’s club would also like to extend it’s deepest sympathies to Mrs. Aileen White, Tullacussane on the death of her father Denis O’Donnell, Mortlestown, Clerihan and to Mrs. Mary Britton, Ballynennon on the death of her mother Mrs. Alice ODea who died in Bournemouth in England.
