Kentstown Rovers 4 — Albion Black 0-Under 9s:
Referee — Alan Goring.

Another fine display by the Fabulous Under 9s as they cruised by Albion. With 2 of our panel missing we were under-strength but it wasnt noticed as right from the whistle Kentstown on the home turf showed the metal and were 1 up through Sean Commons in less than 2 minutes. Albion were looking worried and sat back into their half to regroup for the next few minutes when at 8 minutes they opened up again to attack us, our defence in the shape of Ryan Ashe, Cathal Hickey and Simon Rooney held well and Our Number 1 Joseph Moore popped a great long ball over the top to the right wing where it was met by Jamie Kirwan who brought it home to make it 2-0 at 10 minutes. at that point (and unusually for us) we made substitutions early bringing in Adam Mahon and Sean Nolan for our 2 wingers Luke Holohan and Jamie Kirwan.
The second half started exactly as the first with Cathal Hickey (playing central defence and sweeper) burst up the field at 22 minutes and we are 3-0 up through his sweet touch. Again at 26 minutes young Cathal shows all the Hickey families ball skills and slots home number 4 for us and his second of the day. from there we threw caution to the wind and took out our number 1 Joseph Moore for a little exercise in the midfield replaced by Cathal Hickey and the clock ran out 10 minutes later with a convincing 4-0 home win for the Rovers.
We move on to an away tie with Grove at 10am on Saturday 26th of March with all supporters welcome to scream for our little hero’s.

This morning’s game was the last one of the league and We were playing for
an outside chance of a play-off v Albion Rovers if we won and they were
beaten by bottom of the table Drogheda.

We were off to a flying start, with some good moves on the left and right
wings, but were failing to penetrate the Boyne defense.
After 10 minutes, however, we managed to get a free  just inside their half
of the right hand side.
Jason Lyons stepped up to the mark, and like a Tiger Woods tea
off….straight into the top of the net…DIRECT.  1-0 Kenstown
We continued to put on the pressure, but couldn’t seem to break them down.
With 5 minutes to go before half time, and a mix up at the back, Boyne broke
through and against the run of play scored the equalizer  1-1
The remainder of the first half was close with both sides having the odd pop
at goal.

After a strong team talk at half time and a couple of changes at the back
and midfield, we came out with all guns blazing.
Within 5 minutes of the second half we had managed to score two goals
without reply. One by Dylan Keating, good move up the middle of the park,
Dylan beating his marker and nicely side footing the keeper into the net.
The second was a copy and paste of Jason’s first half goal. Free kick inside
OUR half on the left hand side, Adam o Mara this time stepped up and let it
fly all the way into the net.
We brought on a couple more subs and we were in control of the game until
the final whistle.
It finished Kenstown Whites 3 Boyne Blue 1

Shortly afterwards I called the Drogheda manager to find out their result v
Albion. Unfortunately it was not to be our day, and they went down 1-0
So it’s Albion Rovers win the league by a narrow margin (3 points) to a
gallant Kentstown Whites.
Another season over and it’s a step up from last year, were we finished
joint 3rd. Hopefully as we move out of the Drogheda league to the NEC to
11-a-side football next season, We would like to one better and win the
league.

Some Stats for the year :     Highest goals scored in any of the Under 10
divisions (42)  (18 conceeded)
Only two yellow cards for the whole season.
                No players sent off

On behalf of the management team we would like to thank all the players and
parents for their support throughout the season.
