Juvenile Gaelic Start Program

On Monday 23rd march there will be an introductory session for all Juvenile coaches as well as parents of children in P1-P3.

The introduction will take place in the clubrooms at 7pm.

This is a whole new approach to coaching the U 8 age group with the focus on building up core skills as well as putting the emphasis on fun.

What is planned is a well structured program that will last over the whole season, and will initially be delivered by Ulster Council Coaches Conor O’Toole and Lisa McCrickard.

We would encourage as many parents as possible to come along and get involved and enjoy your children enjoying themselves.

Remember this is open to all primary school children in years 1-3.

The playing season is approaching fast and all teams are now in the middle of pre season training. Details of any pre season training are available form each team mentor. The Senior Reserves are first to start with a game on 29th March away to Loughinisland. There will be a challenge game next Sunday away to Drumaness

Lotto results: Numbers for 15th March are 5/10/20/28. Jackpot not won but 12 players guesses three numbers to share £100. This means next weeks jackpot goes to a fantastic £4100. Remember this is the clubs primary source of income and we would encourage all our members to buy a lotto every week. This will be so much easier now with the introduction of our on line facility. This enables any one who cannot access the lotto locally to simply do thei numbers via the club website at www.rgudownpatrick.com

After last weeks great victory in the All Ireland series by James O’Hare it seems the club members can do no wrong in the athletics arena. Young player , Siobhan Redmond had a great result in her field  whilst St Patrick’ Boy primary team won the South Eastern Education & library Board Cross Country event.

Out of the 8 man team, who were looked after by Bro Christopher and Hugh Kelly, the following 6 are Hoops players.

T Louden, N Patterson, R Fitzpatrick, M Press, L Gallagher and C Shields.

After 6 marvellous weeks the curtain came down on the floodlit league on Friday past. Once again, given the time of year, the weather was benign enough to allow the league to come to a successful conclusion to what has been a very successful event.

Over the course of the league 50+ P6& P7 kids really enjoyed them selves as they showed off their skills under lights.

“ This really was a wonderful event and on which we are going to expand in the Autumn. Despite the time of year we hit it lucky with the weather and the boys and girls really enjoyed themselves” Said games Development Chairman Richard Starkey.

“ Yet events like this do not run themselves and I must pay tribute to Paddy Gerry & Nishy, our ground staff, all the mentors officials and parents. I think it I also should mention Eamon Fitzsimons and the kids from Ardglass who played over the six weeks as well.

“But I cannot let this league come to an end without reference to one particular individual, and that is Kyla Trainor .Her enthusiasm, organisational skills and a leadership qualities really came to the fore here and the success of this event owes a lot to her.”

At the conclusion all the participating children were presented with their medals and certificates by county captain Dan Gordon who encouraged all the kids to stick at their games, listen to their coaches and mentors and in no short time they could be the ones representing Down at the highest level.

Girls U 16 training starts this week on Thursday 19th at 7pm sharp.

Boys U 14 :The next get together is an away match v St. Patrick s Lisburn on Saturday 21st March. We will meet in the club @ 1:20. All players to bring a tracksuit as we will be changing and going to the match in our kit. The match is at 2:30. I would imagine us being home around 4:30 but we will ring round close to the town to arrange pick up times.

Congratulations to all the boys who played in our first match of the season yesterday – a friendly against St. John s. It is a great boost for all concerned to begin the year on a winning note.

the East Down u14 League will begin on Thursday 16th April – the first Thursday after Easter Sunday.

Date for the Diary: Billy Connolly tribute act will be held on Friday 3rd April in PTR Clubrooms.
If last year’s full house is anything to go by this should be a great night entertainment.
Tickets only £10 from any committee member

All quiz sheets to be returned this weekend to Marty Brady
