Rhode GAA Golf Classic

Rhode GAA Club holding a Golf Classic in the Highfield Golf Course in Edenderry on Saturday the 31st of August. This is a fundraiser for all senior teams left in the championship. Teams of four will cost €160 and the following are the competitions on the day

Rhode have qualified for the Division 1 Final when they overcame Edenderry on a 2-15 to 1-8 score line. Midway through the first half Paul McPadden was fouled in the square and Glen O’Connell scored a goal from the penalty spot and the score line at the interval was Rhode 1-7 Edenderry 1-2. Rhode got a great start to the second half with points from Niall McNamee, Niall Darby, Glen O’Connell and Paul McPadden to put them ahead by nine points. Rhode scored their second goal of the game in the last few minutes from Niall McNamee when he rounded the keeper and taped it in from close range. Rhode will now play Clara in the Division 1 Final.

Rhode Minor footballers play Tullamore in the championship on Wednesday in O’Brien Park at 7pm

Rhode Under 10 footballers will play Edenderry and Der Gaels this Saturday in Rhode at 11am

Rhode Junior A footballers were well beaten by Daingean in the championship on Monday night last the lads put in a huge effected but now are out of the championship.

Well done to all the members of Rhode community games finals who on last weekend represented the county. Pride of place went to Kaitlyn Farrelly who won the gold medal in the Under 10 100 meters. This was a huge achievement for Kaitlyn and a great day for all the Farrelly and the Cox families of Rathcobican. Kaitlyn’s mother Jacequline also won gold in Mosney in her time in representing the club and county at the community games in Mosney. Also to the fore were Kaityln’s uncles Stephen and Frances Cox who also won gold in Mosney. So well done to all on a huge achievement for Kaitlyn.

Rhode GAA Minor Club are holding a Tour of Offaly Cycle 2013 to raise funds for all underage teams from Under 8 to Minor the date for this event is Sunday September 15th. This event will start in Rhode at 9.30am and finishes in Rhode at 6pm. Proceeds will go to the Minor Club to help elevate the huge costs incurred with the day to day running of the Minor Club and there will be a donation made to Offaly Hospice.

Route 2 90km entry fee is €20 starting time 10.15am

Route 3 40km entry fee is €15 starting time 12.15pm

Route 4 10km entry fee is €15 per family or free with full sponsorship card starting time 12.30pm

Registration for this event will take place in Killeen’s Lounge Rhode on Saturday evening between 8pm-9pm or on Sunday morning between 8am-9am at Fr. Dowling Park

There was no winner of the Rhode GAA Lotto for the week ending 26th of August for a Jackpot of €15,000. The numbers drawn were 2 9 12 23. The club like to thank all those who supported the draw and thanks to O’Toole’s for the use of their premises and for their help and cooperation.
