Rhode Sends Strong Message To Rivals

R hode Senior footballers started their senior championship campaign on a winning note when they recorded a 4-20 to 0-10 win over Clara in O’Connor Park. Two goals from Niall McNamee and Glen O’Connell laid the path for victory in this game. Rhode’s next game in the championship will be against Ferbane.

Rhode Intermediate footballers lost their first round of the championship against Raheen the half time was 1-5 to 1-3 to Raheen. Rhode missed a few score able chances and could have lead at half time. Second half Raheen pushed on and Rhode created no chances really, Unlucky at times. Raheen looked fitter and more hungry in the end the final score was 2-14 1-4. The younger lads done well

Rhode Junior B footballers were also defeated 1-5 to 0-11 by Clonbullogue in the first round of the championship on Sunday evening.

Rhode Senior footballers suffered their third league defeat on Easter Sunday in Rhode in a high scoring game 4-12 to 3-13. Rhode made a great start to the game and after 10 minutes were 3-3 to no score. Rhode fought hard in the second half but at the final whistle they trailed to their old rivals by one point.

Rhode U.14′s recorded their first win of the year with a comprehensive 7-11 to 2-3 victory over Clara last Saturday in Rhode. This was a very good performance from a team that is improving with each game.

Rhode Under 16 footballers were defeated by Na Fianna on Tuesday evening last on a score line of 0-11 to 0-8 after a very good competitive game of football.

Offaly Minor footballers had a 7-30 to 0-2 win over Kilkenny in the first round of the Leinster Minor Championship in Nolan Park on Easter Saturday. The draw for the quarter final will take place in the coming weeks when all the teams have qualified from the first round. Those involved from the club were Paschal Kellaghan who manages the side Ruairi McNamee and Jack Murphy were on the team for selection from the Rod Og Minor Club.

Offaly Minor hurlers were defeated by Laois in the Leinster Minor hurling championship on a 0-26 to 3-11 score line. Offaly led by five points at the interval after playing with the wind and led for most of the game but Laois finished strongly to win.

Rhode GAA are holding a fundraising night on this Saturday at Mullingar Greyhound Stadium with the first race commencing at 8pm. The stadium has great facilities and can cater for people who can avail of the excellent food outlets which includes a restaurant and fast food outlets while there is also bar facilities for those wishing to have a drink. For those wishing to have a bet there are bookies and tote facilities there and you can also bet on the races in Shelbourne Park. This is also a special night for our local greyhound trainers which they are many who will have runners on the night including our local curate Fr Gregg Corcoran who is new to this.

Members of the committee will be approaching people of the businesses and individuals for sponsorship which will consist of the following ways.

1 Race Sponsorship €200 for full race or share a race ie two people can sponsor a race which will cost €100 each.

2 Advertising, You can advertise in the programme for the night costs €100 half a page costs €50

3 Dog sponsorship costs €20 pre dog

those who sponsor any of the above ways will receive a ticket or tickets for the night which includes admission in and race programme. A member of the committee will be in contact during the week regarding sponsorship. All proceeds will go to the day to day running of the club and to help the teams taking part in the championship and league which are currently running.

There was no winner of the Rhode GAA Lotto for the week ending 28th of April for a Jackpot of €15,000.  The numbers drawn were 3 21 24 28 .  The club  like 6to thank all those who supported the draw and thanks to O'Toole's for the use of their premises and for their help and cooperation.  The following matched three numbers and received €70
