Bride Rovers and Blackrock in Senior Hurling, who would have thought it would ever happen – and in a Senior Hurling Final. Well on next Monday night Easter Monday we will be facing the famed Fishing Village in the final of the 2006 Cork County Senior Hurling League. The 2007 competition has already started but because of a variety of circumstances last years competition has had a slow conclusion. We beat Newtownshandrum in the semi final a month ago. Blackrock drew with Sars in the quarter final six weeks ago. In a high scoring replay at Riverstown the Rockies advanced to the semi final. On Monday night last they beat Erins Own by 1-18 to 0-12 to secure their place in the final. This is our second final in a row. We reached the 2005 final but lost to Glen Rovers by a point in a thriller under lights in Pairc Uí Rinn. On next Monday night it will be back to Pairc Uí Rinn for the 2006 final. The game is timed for 7pm. This is a huge game for us. We are missing a few players from last year’s side. Blackrock are a very experienced side, many of whom have won two county championships. Players like John and Alan Browne, Wayne Sherlock, Aidan Ryan, Adrian Coughlan and Brian O’Keeffe are very, very skilful players. Only two weeks ago we defeated them by 1 point in this year’s league but that day the Rockies were short many players. Going into Monday night’s game we will be looking at this as part of the preparation for our championship tie against St Finbarrs in four weeks time. Blackrock will be all out for revenge for their recent defeat. They are a very good team and will be certainly hard to beat. We must ensure that we get a big increase in our scoring rate – we simply must convert possession into scores. Go for it lads and to all the people of the parish the club makes an appeal to come along to Pairc Uí Rinn on Monday night to support the lads in green, white and gold.
