Sarsfields News 9-10-2001

Congratulations to the Minors and Junior C Team.

The disappointment of losing to Moorefield was lessened by winning two county titles at the weekend; The junior C team had a an impressive and comprehensive victory over Naas, 2-12 to 1-6 in Raheens on Saturday. On Sunday the minors had an equally impressive win over favourites Balyna. Well done to Michael Nolan and his backroom team on the junior C win and to Tommy Gorman, Tom Brennan, and Peter Horgan on the minor win.

The football was overshadowed by the sudden death of Jackie Browne’s wife Anne, mother of Paul, Karen and Sinead on Friday last. The club extends deepest sympathy to the Browne family.

This weekend sees the beginning of the U21 Football Championship. Under the management of Alan Barry the team will take on Clane in Sarsfields Park on Saturday at 4pm. Hopefully they can go one better than last year when they were narrowly beaten by Round Towers in the Final. On Sunday, the hurlers bid to get their JHC campaign back on track, facing Naas in Moorefield at 5pm. Your support for both teams would be much appreciated.

The county board will in the coming months be reassessing the present championship structure and are likely to make changes for next year although it is unlikely that they will revert back to the knockout system.

On Friday and Saturday the 19th and 20th October there will be a Gaelic football conference at Clane GAA Club. Guest speakers will include John Tobin. Mickey Harte, Gerry McEntee, Mick O’ Dwyer, John Doyle and Glenn Ryan.  More details available in the clubhouse. The cost will be €150 per club and up to 20 members can go on each day. Lunch will be provided on Saturday.

The club is hosting 2 matches on Sunday, the second of which is a JFC B Final involving Moorefield and Caragh, so with a big crowd expected, help is needed with umpiring and stewarding. Please contact Shane at 087-2238652 to offer your assistance.
