Sarsfields seniors welcomed Leixlip in the second round ofthe Aldridge Cup on Saturday afternoon in wintry conditions. This wasSarsfields seniors first match at home since winning the County championship.  Sarsfields started well but were off target inthe opening minutes before Barry Coffey opened the scoring on 7 minutes, thiswas quickly followed by a good Conor Tiernan solo run to make it 2 points tonil after nine minutes.  Leixlip made aquick reply within the next passage of play by taking the lead to make it 3points to 2 with two from play and one from a free.   The next ten minutes of football sawSarsfields dominating the play with points from Alan Smith, Barry Coffey, DanNea, Declan McKenna.  This left the scoreat 6 points to 3 with 27 minutes on the clock. Two minutes later, Leixlip closed the gap with a short range free from RToane.  Just before the half ended,Sarsfields stalwart Dermot Earley kicked a point from play to leave the halftime score at 7 points to 4.

Leixlip opened the scoring in the second half with a quickpoint from the throw-in to leave just two points between the teams.  An on form Dan Nea then put Sarsfields threepoints ahead again after a good passage of play involving Caoimhin McDonnelland Ray Cahill.  Barry Coffey thenslotted over a 45 to make it 9 points to 5 which was quickly answered byLeixlip with a point from play.  Shortlyafterwards Alan Smith made it a four point gap again after Mattie Byrne wasfouled.  A decisive moment then came inthe match when Leixlip were awarded a penalty in the 43rd minute andwith a chance to leave just one point between the teams, Leixlip spurned thisopportunity and shortly afterwards Sarsfields capitalised with a Dan Nea pointto make the scores 11 points to 7.  Inthe remaining ten minutes, Sarsfields closed out the game with points fromConor Tiernan, Kieran McInerney Aspell and Alan Smith followed by a late DanNea goal to leave the final score to read Sarsfields 1-14 to Leixlip 0-9.
