Fixtures:Division 4 game on Sunday at 2.30 in the Park against Annaduff.
Seniors Beat St Marys:Our seniors had a good win over St Mary’s on Sunday, a win which puts us on top of Division 2 with three wins out of three. It wasn’t as easy as the scoreline suggests, particularly in the first half. We got points from Seán Murray, Anton Arandelovic, James McWeeney (free) and Rory O’Rourke but it was a well take penalty from Wayne McKeon which made the difference at half-time when we led by just 1-5 to 0-4. Against St Mary’s second team, this did not look good enough.
The second half was much better and points in turn from James McWeeney (free), Seán Murray, Anthony McTague and two good ones from Rory O’Rourke left us leading by 1-10 to 0-6. Then we seemed to be in bother when Carrick got a goal to leave only four points in it. However, within minutes, Wayne McKeon finished a great goal from a great move up the field and Rory O’Rourke followed with a great point which left it comfortable. Indeed Rory O’Rourke had an outstanding game and got four good points during the hour. Four more points followed and it finished 2-14 to 1-8.
Juniors win again in Div 3:Our Junior A team, which seemed dead and buried a few weeks ago, got their second win in two weeks when they beat Drumkeerin by 1-13 to 1-8 in the Park on Monday. On this occasion we had probably the strongest team we had out in this division so far this year. A week earlier we had to ring around before the game to get fifteen. This time we had half a dozen subs and most of our eligible senior players. This was very evidently a strong team from the start and good scores came from Seán McCartin, Shane Murphy and Adrian Smith in particular in the first half. The goal was a great move finished by Adrian Smith and we led comfortably by 1-9 to 0-4 at half time.
Drumkeerin had a much better second half and they outscored us in that half. Indeed only for a couple of great saves from Philip Farrelly we could have been in trouble at the end. Brian Cafferty got a couple of particularly good points when we needed them most towards the end. There were lots of good performances particularly from Philip Farrelly, David Leyden, Philip Murphy, Anthony McTague, Shane Murphy and Brian Cafferty
Ladies win over Fenagh:The Sean O’Heslins Ladies started their 9 A-Side League with a win over Fenagh.
