Seniors beat NUIG to book place in quarter-finals against Caherlistrane

November 8, 2018

Barna GAA Club’s senior team cruised into the quarter-final of the Galway senior football championship with a comfortable victory over NUI Galway at Moycullen on Sunday.

Barna passed the students’ test with flying colours, winning on a score line of 0-13 to 0-4.

Pat Fallon’s men now face Caherlistrane in the quarter-finals, after they overcame Tuam Stars by three points in extra time in Corofin earlier on Sunday evening.

After a tense opening ten minutes, when both teams were scoreless, despite several chances, Barna took control and led by 0-6 to 0-1 at the break.

Paddy Kennedy opened the scoring and Paddy Naughton, Kieran Hanley, Ray Conneely and Jason Lyons (two frees) also got their names on the score sheet in the opening half.

In miserably wet conditions, Barna drove on after half-time and were too strong for the Tommy Joyce trained NUIG.

Jason Lyons, with four frees, did most of the damage from dead-balls and Ray Conneely, Ryan Folan and DD Flaherty also raised white flags in the second half.

Meanwhile, our junior team was beaten in championship by St James’ on Saturday evening.
