SFL Div 2: Clonmore 1-10 Ballinabranna 0-6

November 8, 2018

The Intermediates got their League season off to a winning start with an impressive performance against regular rivals Ballinabranna. The team played to an effective game plan of closing down the opposition and moving the ball quickly to the forwards. This yielded good results and we led by 1-6 to 0-3 at half-time. The goal was cleverly slapped to the net by Collie McGrath and some impressive long range points came from Shane McGrath, Con Murphy, Niall Humphries, Adam Byrne and long serving corner back Paul Byrne.

The second half was more evenly contested and the backs defended well to keep out some determined B'Branna attacks. In the end we ran out deserving winners of a game where all of Clonmore's scores came from play.

Next Up: Grange at home on Thursday, 17 April, 8pm.

TEAM: Paddy Byrne, Willie Byrne, John Kelly, Paul Byrne (0-1), Paul Hogan, Gavin Byrne, Mick Smith, Ronan Doyle, Enda McGrath, Con Murphy (0-3), Colin McGrath (1-1), Adam Byrne (0-2), PJ Byrne, Niall Humphries (0-1), Shane McGrath (0-2), Subs: Owen Coleman for Collie McGrath, Martin Doyle for Paul Hogan, David Mulvany for Willie Byrne.

PHOTO: Willie Byrne was one of a hard working and disciplined set of backs who defended well to restrict Ballinabranna to just 6 points. Willie has put in solid performances for both the Junior and Intermediates this season inspite of carrying an elbow injury.
