SFL Div 2: Clonmore 2-17 St Patricks 0-3

November 8, 2018

The first half of this game was reasonably competitive but when Clonmore got the use of the wind in the second half there was only going to be one winner. Another good team performance from this group of young players. Paddy Byrne and Jordan Kane got their first starts for the Intermediates and both did very well.

A remarkable stat from the game is that 11 of the 19 players used were under 22, which augurs well for the future, and a few more were unavailable due to injury, exams etc.

Five of our six forwards on Sunday are eligible to play Under 21 this year. The odd man out was Paul Byrne, who is now slightly overage for U-21 having played on the one and only Clonmore team ever to win an Under 21 A Championship in 1991 – scoring two vital points in our 0-7 to 0-5 final win over Rathvilly. Twenty two years on and ‘Fisher’ is still going strong. A good innings by any standard. Coincidentally, Paul is a Mentor with our U-21s this year.

Team: Paddy Byrne, Paul Hogan (0-1), Bobby Rooney, John Kelly, Willie Rooney, Ronan Doyle (0-1), Enda McGrath, Gavin Byrne (0-2, 2f), David Mulvany (1-3), David McCarney (0-2), Kevin McCarney (0-2), Paul Byrne, Jordan Kane, Shane McGrath (0-4), Darren McGrath (1-0). Subs: Jamie Walsh (0-1) for Jordan Kane, Dale McNamara (0-1) for Darren McGrath, Mark D Byrne for John Kelly, Andrew Byrne for Enda McGrath.

Next game: Home to Railyard, Sunday, 12 May at 7pm.
