SFL Div 4: St Andrews 0-17 Clonmore 2-3

November 8, 2018

Juniors suffer heavy defeat: SFL Division 4: St Andrews 0-17 Clonmore 2-3. Clonmore were short a few regulars and had to start with selectors Bobby Connolly and John Byrne in the full-forward line along with PJ Townsend who just happened to be driving past McGrath Park, Bagenalstown, before the game !  Playing catch up from the start, Clonmore went in trailing by nine points at the break, but in fairness to the visitors they didn’t drop the heads in the second half and battled on bravely. Clonmore scored two points on the re-start and were unlucky to see a Niall Humphries penalty slip the wrong side of the post, the penalty awarded for a reckless challenge on bustling full forward John Byrne.  Five minutes later, Bobby Connolly, using all his experience, came close to a goal when his fisted effort struck the upright. The Clonmore backs worked hard to keep the lively St Andrews forwards quiet and Clive Lambe had a great game between the sticks. It could have been a closer finish had one or two of the Clonmore goal chances gone in, but they will have to pick things up in the next game at home against Tinryland on Wednesday evening.

Team: Clive Lambe, Fergal Kavanagh, Dinny Quigley, Niall Curran, Mick O’Neill, Wayne Doyle, James Doyle, Shane Murphy, Daragh Conway, Stephen Doyle, Ray O’Neill, Niall Humphries, PJ Townsend, John Byrne, Bobby Connolly.
