SFL Div 5: Ballinabranna 2-8 Clonmore 4-3

November 8, 2018

In a low scoring first half, goals by Jason Byrne and the returning Jamie Walsh (2) gave us a half-time lead of 3-0 to 0-3.

By the 44th minute, we had extended our lead to 4-1 to 0-6 with another goal by Joe Hickey and a Jamie point. But from there to the end, it was a struggle as Clonmore only had 15 players while Ballinabranna ran in several subs to give them fresh legs. Two goals from Ballinabranna brought them level at 4-2 to 2-8 on 53 minutes and things looked ominous. But both teams missed chances to go ahead amnd it looked like the game would end in a draw.

Then in the 60th minute, with only seconds remaining, up popped Clive Lambe with a well taken point with his trusty (!) left peg to win the game for Clonmore.

Well done to the 15 who travelled and to 60 year old Selector, Tommy Kelly, who togged out and was on the sideline ready for action. Also special mention goes to Larry Doyle for playing his third full game in three nights – Sunday for the Intermediates v Railyard, Monday for the Minors v Myshall and tonight for the Juniors – well done Larry.

Team: Jordan Kane, Ger Doyle, Colin Doyle, John Connolly, Martin Byrne, Pauric Lawlor, Mick Smith, Ronan Doyle, Larry Doyle, Jason Byrne (1-0), Clive Lambe (0-2), Jamie Walsh (2-1), Richard Roche, John McGrath, Joe Hickey (1-0). Unused Sub: Tommy Kelly.
