SKGAA Newsletter 22/8/18

November 8, 2018

A chairde,

It was another weekend to savour for SK and Galway fans with the minor hurlers and our own Donal O'Shea winning the All Ireland title on Sunday, helped of course also by SKGAA's PJ Kelly who has been doing a terrific job on the strength and conditioning of the minor hurlers these past few years. On behalf of the club, we want to congratulate Donal, PJ, as well as Jeoffrey Lynsky and the entire Galway Minor team on this fantastic achievement. And let us not forget Donal's parents, coaches and team mates who are deserving of huge credit also. We're all so proud of you all!!! Hurling is certainly in a very healthy place in the club, with Daniel O'Flaherty following in Donal's footsteps at U15 level, our U13s in a County Final tomorrow and close to 100 children taking part in the hurling and camogie camp this week, it's certainly onwards and upwards from here. Commiserations of course to Micheal O'Donohue and the Galway seniors who have done us so proud over the past number of years. Anyone who saw the game would agree there was an air of inevitability about Limerick's win and it's hard to begrudge them their deserving victory. Playing their ninth game of the championship, it proved a tall order for the Galway lads, although had the game gone on another few minutes, Galway could well have snatched it. They'll be back next year again and we'll all be roaring them on.

On the club front, there is much news to report below. The Senior footballers return to championship action this weekend in a crucial Round 2 game vs Annaghdown in Athenry on Sunday at 6.30pm so we would ask all club members to make the effort to go out and support the lads. It promises to be a very exciting game. As mentioned, our U13 hurlers play their county final tomorrow night and we hope to see a big skgaa presence at that also.

Two Important Notices Club members should be aware of:

1. The tall trees on both sides of the Prairie are due to be trimmed down and back over the coming weeks. This (as I'm sure you can all well imagine) is a fairly large job and therefore there may be a small amount traffic disruptions and parking restrictions over the coming weeks so please be aware of this and maybe let your neighbours know if they are living in the area.

2. With a number of our club players involved with the Galway minor team, we are likely to receive a small allocation of tickets for the All Ireland Football Final. If you would like your name entered into the draw for tickets, please leave your name with James in the office: 091527333.

Junior and Junior A

The Junior As received a walk over in their second round game vs Leitir Mór in the Championship. A win over Carraroe in their last group game would see them into the semi finals. The Juniors are fixed to play Claregalway this Sunday at 1pm in their second round game but this game is likely to be postponed. We will post on social media if it goes ahead.

The U14A Footballers continue training every Tues 6-7.15pm in advance of the county championship quarter final.

With the SKGAA Hurling and Camogie Summer Academy in full swing, the children were treated with a few very special visitors. On Tuesday, All Star Kilkenny Hurler TJ Reid dropped by and took photos with players, congratulated coach Donal O'Shea and gave some excellent advise to our U13s for the their upcoming county final.

Fresh from its return from Croke Park, the Irish Press Cup along with our own Donal O'Shea, PJ Kelly, captain Sean Neary and a number of other Galway Minor Stars visited the camp. PJ and the players took part in a fascinating Q and A and the whole experience has provided our young hurlers and camogie players with invaluable inspiration to see how much can be achieved by playing in our great club.

Camogie

U10s U10s drew with Carnmore last Thursday evening in a very useful challenge. Plenty on skill on show from our girls.

Good luck to U11s who play second game in summer league against Castlegar away Saturday 11.30.

U16s lost to a very strong Killimor side in U16B championship semi final. Preparations will now start for the U15 championship which will take place over the next eight weeks.
