A chairde,

What a weekend we had in the club. On Saturday the U15 camogie team kicked off the day by beating Liam Mellows to win the City West League. Then the U21 footballers overcame Moycullen on saturday afternoon to add a second bit of silverware when they retained the West Board title and have now qualified for the county final which will likely be played in the new year. We then had our annual fundraiser which this year was called Battle of the Bay Lip Sync battle. 35 performers from all sections of the club took part in a seven team competition. It was a wonderful and to be honest a hilarious night which I'm sure was enjoyed by the 500+ attendees. A huge thank you must go to the 13 person strong organising committee and 35 performers who have given up so much time ovr the past 10weeks to make the night happen and go so wonderfully. Congrats to the Junior A hurlers who won out the competition dressed as the 4 Beyonces. Also a huge thank you to all the people and businesses who so generously sponsored the events. That wasn't the end of the excitement though. On Sunday morning the girls U12 A football team capped off a fantastic weekend winning the Division 1 championship Shield.

Further good news filtered in this week that the club has been awarded Juvenile Football Club of the Year for 2017. A huge congratulatrions to Juvenile Director Noel Tyrell and all his committee and coaches for their outstanding work this year.

And finally (running out of superlatives), we got wonderful news last week that the City Council acknowledged our appeal for (badly needed) remedial work on the Árus and grounds and improved and updated facilities in Cappagh and have included a large grant for SKGAA as well as assigning funds for Cappagh in the 2018 budget.  Míle buíochas to Mayor Pearse Flannery and the city councillers who recognised and ackowledged the huge public service provided by the club and the need for funding to maintain and improve the facilities used and made available by and for the club.

Club AGM takes place on the 3rd of December from 7.15pm.

Football

U21

Congrats to the U21 footballers who sealed the West Board title with a 3point victory over Moycullen in the Prairie on Saturday. The lads were made work very hard in this game. After a good start, Moycullen came back into the game and scored a goal leaving very little between the teams at half time. Moycullen came out all guns blazing in the second half and took the lead thanks to a fantastic goal in the second half . All looked lost to SKGAA with the momentum with the Moycullen lads, But all credit to SK lads who didn't panic and produced a very impressive final 10 to 15 minutes to win by 3 points in the end. Despite numerous county players on both sides the stars of the day were SKGAA's Davey Knight and Tom Morris who exemplified the need for practise and training. The two lads have attended junior a and junior games all year and never miss U21 training and their performances on Saturday really showwed there is no substitute for hard work and dedication when it comes to making the difference in big games. The lads now progress to another county final which will more than likely take place in the new year.

On Saturday Morning in the Prairie the SK U15 Camogie team had a great win in the final of the U15 City League defeating a strong Liam Mellows team in an epic encounter. The girls fell behind by eight points in the first half but fought back to run out winners by 4 points on a score line of 4-9 to 3-8. This brings to a finish a very long and successful year for this very dedicated and talented group of girls.

Ladies Football

Junior

Junior - The junior ladies swapped their football boots for dancing shoes last weekend to take part in Battle on the Bay. The ladies thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the entertaining event supporting the club. Well done to all involved!

u14 - Well Done Mike Tarpey in Representing Ladies Football at the Club Fundraiser Lip Sync event in the Salthill. Mike T is not just a good coach and tactician, he's a Stage Performer of Note also.

Attended the Ladies AGM on Monday 20th Nov in the Arus. The U14 Girls Management Team is moving up to U16 for 2018. Exciting year ahead.

Next up is a plan to present Div 2 Championship Medals to the Girls. Watch this space for next week for Updates.

u12 - u12 Girls A team finished off their season last Sunday with an impressive win over Kilkerrin Clonberne in the the Div 1A Shield final. The girls didn't let the tough weather+pitch conditions in Menlough get to them too much and put in a very determined display to win 7-4 to 1-1. All 20 players contributed during the match and players + parents all enjoyed the celebrations afterwards. A fitting reward for a super squad of dedicated U12 Footballers.
