A chairde,

Salthill Knocknacarra are delighted to welcome Friends First as our new club main sponsor. Head of Marketing Brian O' Neill came down from Dublin and along with Galway based John Colleran and Greg Tynan we had a great launch last Friday. Also pictured are Minor footballer Keith Gleeson, U21 footballer Robert Finnerty and Senior Footballer, Finian Hanley whose teams will all be wearing Friends First kits for the forthcoming few years. Fáilte mór.

The senior footballers had a great albeit nervy win over neighbours St. Michaels last Sunday in the Stadium. Next up in Corofin in a repeat of last year's county final in Tuam Stadium at 3.45pm on Saturday. It's knockout football so SKGAA need big support on the day so please make the effort to go along and support the lads. The minors took another step towards the West Board Final with a comprehensive win over Oughterard in the Prairie last Wednesday. And there was more silverware collected this week by the ever impressive Ladies Football section who added an U14 Div. 2 championship title to their Shield title earlier in the year. Well done to all players and management. The junior ladies have a crucial championship semi final fixed for next Tuesday as do the U16 camogie team who face Mullagh in the county semi final this Friday at 6.45pm in the Prairie. Best of luck to the 5 SKGAA lads Donal O Shea, Ronan  McGuiness, Eoin Tinney, Cathal Sweeney, Tom Kilduff and Aidan Halloran involved with the Galway Football U16 City West team who begin the Ted Webb championship tonight in Bekan, Ballyhaunis. We are extremely proud of all the lads particularly Cathal, who fresh from representing the full Galway U16 hurlers at the weekend has now been selected to captain the Galway City West Ted Webb team.

And of course: Best wishes to both the Galway minor and senior hurling teams in the All Ireland Final and to our own PJ Kelly involved in training the teams. Gaillimh abú.

Football
Senior:
The senior footballers had a great albeit nervy win over neighbours St. Michaels last Sunday in the Stadium. The lads were the stronger side throughout the first half but missed 2 or 3 good goal opportunities including a penalty to help increase the gap. After the break Michaels came out all guns blazing and converted their own penalty leading to a nervy final 15 minutes. But all credit to the SKGAA lads. They matched Michaels point for point for the last quarter of the game and came away 2 point winners on a scoreline of 0-17 to 1-12.  Next up is Corofin in the preliminary quarter final in a repeat of last year's county final in Tuam Stadium at 3.45pm on Saturday. It's knockout football and with Corofin on their quest for 5 in a row, SKGAA need big support on the day so please make the effort to go along and support the lads.

Minor
The minors took another step towards the West Board Final with a comprehensive win over Oughterard in the Prairie last Wednesday. There was very little between the teams in a scrappy first half in the rain. But in the second half SKGAA showed the real firepower they posses firing home six goals to see off Oughterard. Calym Crowe, Aidan Halloran and Evan Murphy doing much of the damage.  Next up is Moycullen in the last group game with a West Board Final please secured if they win.

Mixed fortunes this week for U12A team. They recorded a brilliant 2-10 to 2-07 win against a strong Oranmore team on Sunday. All except 1 point was from play and it was pleasing to see scores of this caliber. The team came out second best to Moycullen on Tuesday and now depend on other results to see how play offs will be determined.
The U12's play the 13B league final against Naomh Anna Leitir Mor on Friday evening in Rossaveal.  They have done really well in the league stages, winning 5 of their 6 games at a higher age group and look forward to this league final eagerly.

U11s played in Gp 4 of the U12 league.
On Sunday we were well beaten at home by a strong Oranmore team. The boys played some nice football at times but weren't really up to the task, losing by 6-12 to 1-8.
Tue they played away to Moycullen. We played much better tonight than on Sunday with good urgency in the play to outscore their opponents 6-7 to 1-7.  Some very strong individual performances, but played well as a team. The boys have won 3 out of 5 games in the group so should be in one of the play-offs places depending on other results.
Our second U12b team played St James 12A  on Monday and while the team lost they showed good character and vastly improving match ability. We are approaching this league with squad development in mind and from that perspective, while results are not going in our favour at the moment, it is proving extremely beneficial.

U13 busy preparing for Austin Stacks tournament on 9th sept best luck to Conor Fergus and all lads and supporters heading down don't wear too many Mayo jerseys

County.
Last Saturday saw the high light of County Juvenile hurling,  with the Galway U14 , U15's and U16's all playing.  And SKGAA was well represented at all levels.
In the Tony Forristal Tournament Daniel O Flaherty travelled to Waterford and played with the Galway A team . Unfortunately they met a good Tipperary team in the Final and lost by 4 points.
In the U15 Tournament Diarmuid Munroe lined out for the Galway boys in Clare . And again they had a great day only to be beaten by Cork in extra time.
The Arrabawn Co-Op U16 Tournament took place in Tipperary.  We had two players on Galway A team Cathal Sweeney and Donal O'Shea.  They had a big win against Cork and a 2 points win over Waterford in a tense game . But they came up short against the might Tipperary in the Semi-final .
Well done to the four boys and hopefully we see some more stepping up to the plate next year. And well done also to the Coaches for all their hard work to get the boys ready.

u14 – County Final Div2A Result SK 6-6[24] Ballygar 3-10[19]
A hectic week finished out well for the Girls on Sunday with a fine well earned victory over tough opponents Ballygar in the County Div. 2A Final.
On the day, the Girls played really well and executed the planned first half tactic derived by the Selectors. Within the first 5 Min's SK captain Emma Madden, placed at Full forward, had rattled the Ballygar net with two goals superbly taken on receipt of well placed balls by fellow Club and County Star Laura Kelly. These two outstanding players, well backed up the Girls on the Team took the game to Ballygar from the throw in. This forced Ballygar to counter by placing a sweeper in front of the SK full forward. The damage was done and these goals were followed by three more before half time.
Half time score was SK 5-3 Ballygar 2-3.
The second half saw Ballygar attack SK from the throw in as they had the stiffening breeze at their backs. Still SK would not lie down and despite conceding 1-7 in that half, SK countered themselves to score 1-3.
Great praise must go to this bunch of girls and on the day 31 girls togged out. This was an excellent showing by so many girls.
The County Cup was presented at Full time to Emma Madden by County Board Representative Dawn Delaney and then the Girls enjoyed a well earned Supermacs Supper in Tuam Road upstairs dining area.
This was then followed by a travelcade through Salthill, The Prom and The Western Distributor Road and a tour of Knocknacarra. The travelcade finished at the Aras where the Girls returned to homes thereafter.
Many thanks to all the Parents who travelled to Skehana and the many other venues over the past 6-7months to ferry the Girls and to support their efforts to win to try and win Feile, The Shield and The County Cup.
Thanks also to the Selectors [ Con Bell, Mike Tarpey, Joe Greaney] and first Aiders, [Dave Biggins and Michelle Healey]. The tactics derived worked well on the Day. Yes, there is plenty of scope for improvement.
The Team Management wish to Thank the Club Executive and Director of Ladies Football Sean Cullen for the support received through out the year.

u12 – U12 Footballers started their championship on Sunday in Cappagh-A+B teams in a double header against Oranmore. The A team were up first+despite the late, late change to a 13 aside format by the opposition (at throw in!) the girls just got stuck in. They needed a match and certainly enjoyed being back, doing what they have been doing well. A very good win means it's Monivea Abbey up next in the semi-final. Then it was the B team's turn.  After a tight first half our girls upped their intensity in the second half and really grew in confidence. Wonderful to watch from the sidelines. Winners by 4-6 to 2-6. Carraroe up next. Also well done to the subs who didn't get game time but supported from the side, it was a real squad effort all round.

u6/u8/u10 – Girls back training every Wed eve in McGraths field starting Wed 6th.
