SKGAA Newsletter 6/9/18

November 8, 2018

A chairde,

Commiserations to our county minor footballers who lost out to Kerry in the All Ireland Final at the weekend. The lads put in a great display, particularly in the first half, but probably should have gone in to the break further ahead. We are immensly proud of our own players who all played well again at the weekend. Anyones pick for their top minor performer of the year would include Cathal, Eoghan and Aidan in their consideration without any doubt. The lads deserve huge credit as well for lining out in minor club championship, only 48 hours later in the minor footballer's good win over Oughterard (something we feel the lads should never have had to do.)

It's crunch time for many of our teams in championship at the moment with all the information below. The senior footballers have a must win tie vs Barna this Sunday in Pearse Stadium, so we would ask all our members for their support in this game.

The Juniors also have a must win game over Renvyle this Sunday at 6pm in the Prairie, after they lost out to Claregalway last weekend. All support welcome.

Minor

The minors kicked off their championship with a good win over Oughterard away on Tuesday evening. The lads were understandably rusty given this is their first competitive game in over 3 months and 3 of the players were playing for Galway 48 hours before in the All Ireland Final. Nevertheless the lads showed serious quality at different stages during the game and came out with a good 5-11 to 1-15 win. Best for SKGAA on the day were Donal O' Shea, Eoghan Tinney and Niall Hanahoe. Next up in Moycullen for a place in a West Board Semi Final.

Ladies Football

The club has 5 adult and 5 U16 complimentary tickets for the All Ireland Ladies Final if anyone's interested. Contact Mike Tarpey.

Junior – Hard luck to the Juniors who lost out to Kilkerrin/Clonberne B last Thurs. next up Monivea Abbey.

u16 – The U16 Div 1 Shield Semifinal is held up and suspended due to a pending appeal to Connacht Council by Claregalway after being ejected from Shield due to allegedly non fulfillment of posted fixtures. So routing training took place Wed 22 and 29th August with 15+ girls in attendance. On the Wed 29th, the U16's had a tussle with the U14 Girls who again impressed immensely in Endas. Match was reffed by Mike Tarpey who as they say, let the game flow. We hope Neasa Daly recovers well & soon from a slight knee strain after giving her all for that first 15mins. The Browne Sisters had a great tussle with Older sister Katie just about getting the Upper Hand over her younger sister Anna. Great turnout by so many Girls. Well Done Girls. The U16 Team and Mgmt wish all the U14's &  Team management Best Wishes as they take on the Championship for 2018.

Up to 5 of the U16 Panel competed well with Junior Panel against Kilkerne/Clonberne[K.C] in Junior C Championship on Thurs 30th Aug in the Prairie pitch in perfect conditions. SK togged out with 14 girls and came close at times to KC in both the first half early in 2nd half. Slowly but surely KC got on top and finished up winning 21pts to 14pts. The good thing from SK point of view was a good performance by many and the Team as a whole created many chances. The Challenge for this team is to convert more of the chances to points on the Board.

Next Up is Training Wed 5th and followed by the Minor C Shield Final on Sunday 9th Sept  V An Ceatharrua in Tonabrucky Pitch. Throw in at 3pm.

Many thanks to Parents and Girls for committing to wearing the Colours and keeping the Flag Flying with numbers down the Minimum.

u14 – U14 Girls Div 5 team lost out to a stronger Claregalway team in Cappagh last Thursday. Some notable individual performances, teamwork will improve as the group train and play more over the coming weeks in the Shield competition. U14 Div 4 team were much too strong for Milltown in Cappagh on Friday and now progress to the semi-final. U14 Girls Div 1 team's match vs Caltra will be on next week sometime. Special shout out to Tony + our 8 City Shamrocks girls who won the Galway competition last Saturday and go on to play in the Connacht competition this Saturday. Good luck!!

u10 – Girls training back on Wednesday 5th at 7pm in Mc Grath pitch.

u6/8 – Under 6 and 8s back training on wednesday evenings from 6-7 in Mcgraths field all welcome.
