November 8, 2018

A chairde,

Another busy week passes in SKGAA with so much happening. First of all, congratulations to Evan Murphy and Eoin Mcfadden on another Connacht Minor Title on Sunday with a comprehensive win over Sligo in Pearse Stadium. Evan was named Man of The Match after a fantastic display in Midfield. Commiserations to Sean Armstrong and Finian Hanley on the loss to Roscommon in the Senior Final. We hope to see Sean back in action for Galway for the Qualifiers. Adding to the county action last weekend, hard luck goes to Tom Considine, Aidan Halloran, Robert Waltzer and Calym Crowe who lost out in the Connacht final playing for Galway U17s.

Thanks to all who helped with the carparking and cleaning up of the stadium after the game. Thanks to John Donohue along with Anthony and Dave from Tús, Barry Kelly, Gerry Kelly and his two Daughters, Dave (u8/9 coach) and kids, Sean Gavin and son, Keith Duggan and son and Brian Muldoon and son and Paul Crane.

Cúl Camps continue this week with Hurling and Camogie. It is great to see the big numbers attending from SKGAA in both Hurling/Camogie and Football/Ladies football last week. Don’t worry if you have missed out on Cúl Camps as SKGAA will be running our own camps later in the summer, so keep an eye out for more info soon.

The kids have shown great improvement this year and looking forward to playing more blitzes after the summer break.

U11

U11 Boys playing in u12 summer league group 4 had a great battle against Bearna.

Playing away in Furbo, it was nip and tuck the whole way, 1 point in it at half time, after the restart Bearna had a goal and a point in quick succession to lead by 3.

This was clawed back and SK went into the lead by a point. Bearna struck back with a goal to regain the lead.

A fantastic period by SK in the last 8 mins or so saw us score 4-2 without reply to win out (convincingly) in the end 3-10 to 8-7, thanks to the late flurry.  Some really good play, great to see progression.

Next game scheduled for Sunday  16th in Prairie at 11am.

U12

This weekend saw u12's field 3 teams for the first time between U11 and U12 panels. The objective is to maximise playing time for all players. A depleted U12A team showed great resolve in coming back from 11 points down away to Barna, to draw level, only to be beaten by two late scores. Our second B team lost Tuesday night away by 1 point to a stronger Oughterard team.

U13

Footballers had a challenge v NaFianna in Cappagh last Sun. It was a good match with all players contributing to a fine win. Next up is Killannin in the u13a league this Fri at 7pm in the Prairie.

U13

Hard luck to the U13's last Saturday morning against Cappataggle. We came up short at the end . Salthill Knocknacarra 0-10 to 2-06 Cappataggle.  Next up is a home game Saturday morning at 11am in the Prairie against Liam Mellows.

The Cul Camps are happening this week in the Prairie and we have 120 plus boys and girls attending.

Ladies Football

Junior

The juniors put in a super team performance against a strong Claregalway B panel on Thurs 6th. CG were quick off the mark and went ahead early on. SKGAA ladies showcased their threat running at the CG defence at pace which resulted in well taken scores. In tough conditions both teams produced some brilliant passages of football. SKGAA worked endlessly and it looked as though they would get the upper hand.  Unfortunately they were able to take full advantage of all the chances created during a long period of domination from the start of the second half. As time went on SK pushed on to get the goal they needed to level it. However the CG defence held strong and eventually they broke up the field to score a third and final goal. Final result SKGAA 1-11 CG 3-11.

U14

With the League over, focus turned to the 2017 Div. 2 Championship. At the Draw held in Oughterard on Tues 27th June, SKGAA drew Glenamaddy / Williamstown [ G/W ] at home for Game 1 of 3. The venue and date were fixed for Sat 8th July with a 2pm throw in at the Prairie.

On the day, SKGAA girls won 2-11 to 2-3. Challenging match as SKGAA were down  9 Girls from regular panel of girls with many away on Vacation. Once SKGAA Girls settled, the scores started to flow and SK started to take control. An injury to an ankle was encountered early to Rebecca Patten. We hope she makes a full and speedy recovery. G/W came back strong at us in the 2nd half and got two goals to keep SKGAA under pressure for the last 10 Min's. At the end SKGAA held out and grateful to get a victorious start to 2017 Championship.

Next up is an Away match to Caherlistrane. This is currently fixed for Wed 26th July 2017. Parents, need  a full attendance for this next match. Planned throw in would be for 7pm.
