November 8, 2018

A chairde,

A relatively quiet week in SKGAA terms this week as we prepare for the next few weeks ahead.

Congratulations to Saoirse Flynn and the Galway Minors who defeated Dublin in the All-Ireland Minor Ladies Football Semi-Final. They play Cork in the final August 7th in O’connor Park, Tullamore. Throw in is 4.45 and SKGAA wish Saoirse All the best in that. A big support would be greatly appreciated by Saoirse and the whole squad. Gaillimh Abú!!!

Another great Cul Camp season in SKGAA is over. Great to see so many boys and girls in the Prairie. Well done to all involved and thanks to all the Coaches. We hope to see all the boys and girls show off their new found skills in SKGAA colours.

A big thank you to all those who turned out for the annual SKGAA Golf Society AM-AM last Friday afternoon. It seemed everyone avoided the rain and enjoyed the best portion of the day. A huge thank you to the main sponsor on the day, Tom Sheridans Bar and Restaurant, who give generously every year. Big thank you goes to all the other sponsors who sponsored tee boxes or teams or prizes which without them, there would be no AM-AM. Congrats to the organizing committee along with Mark Gibbs on a fantastic day. And finally congrats to the winners (and losers!!). see below the table of results:

Juvenile Football

U6/7/8

U6/7/8s have all finished up for summer break. They will resume training in St Mary's in 1st week September where new players are always welcome.

We will be going to schools in early September so the Coaches are looking for some help with that. Calling any teachers or parents who have any links with any local primary school in Salthill or Knocknacarra area more to follow next month.

U9/10

U9's/10s played Moycullen with the  last Saturday, great performances all round.

Tuesday was last session before the summer break and Liam Sammon gave the training to both squads which was a pleasure to see such a legend of the game there. The kids really loved learning from the Master and a big thanks to Liam.

Thanks to all the parents and the kids for such great turnouts and commitment this year.

Both teams will return in August 22nd.

SKGAA Camp is on Aug7-11. 9:30-1:30. Contact: Arus 091527333/0871635814 to book.

U11

The U12's (group 4 which is our u11s) were  beaten 6-9  to 4-10 against Claregalway last Sunday. Lads did well and showed plenty of grit. Played a good Claregalway team.

Need to continue working on the basics in training....picking up the ball, hand-passing and 20yrd kick passes.

U12

Next game for 12A is against Claregalway in the Prairie on Thursday at 7.30pm.

Our second B team got another walkover - this time from Spiddal as they could not field a team.

U13

U13B's had their first defeat of the campaign (4-8 to 2-5) against a far physically bigger team away to St Michaels on Friday in very wet and windy conditions. We played very well at times given the age and physical differences between the teams and the fact that we were missing many key players. These games will hopefully serve us well and we may yet finish second in this league. We will certainly finish third and get to a shield final.

The U13a footballers recorded another great win, this time v Killannin, last Friday evening in very wet conditions in Cappagh Park. Our lads dominated possession from the throw in, and aided by a strong breeze went in 3-8 to 0-1 at half-time.

All players contributed, particularly in the 2nd half, and some of the tackling and passing was what you'd expect from a much older age group.

Despite Killannin upping their game considerably in the 2nd half our lads kept the work rate up. A sign of the squad teamwork was our continued dominance even though we had 28 different players contribute during the match, eventually winning out on a score line of 6-12 to 1-2. Next up is Moycullen in the Prairie, Tues 18th at 6.30pm.

.

The U13a team had their 2nd match in 5 days in this competition on Tuesday 18th v Moycullen, and it ended in another good win for our lads  on a score line of 2-11 to 1-5. It was a tough 2nd half but yet again our lads dug deep to keep Moycullen from getting a foothold in the match.

Last match is away to Claregalway on the 28th.

U14

The u14b team play Micheál Breathnachs this Friday (21st) at 7pm in Cappagh Park and have one more fixture to be played v Spiddal, with a qtr final berth up for grabs.

The U14's beat St Michael's 6-22 to 1-1 in the Lge/Chsp. Last  match this Friday at home to Moycullen. Top of the table at the moment having won all 6 previous games.

U15/16

Under 15's beat St Michaels in a top of the table clash in the city and West league  with an impressive scoreline of 1-22 to 1-8.

They now meet St Michaels in the final some date in late August when both squads are at their strongest.  We can't wait!

Under 16s beat Moycullen by 8 points in our last league game this evening.

We top the West board table and are through to the county championship quarter finals in later August.

Adult Hurling

Salthill Under 17s kicked off their City League Campaign with an impressive win away to City Rivals Liam Mellows with an impressive 2-point win on Monday evening.

Well done to James Kelly, his backroom team and all players involved. Always great to get to get one up against a rival club!

The Juniors were to face Ardahan in a do or die Championship match at the weekend. This match has been POSTPONED. This match well more than likely be played next weekend and support will be essential so keep an eye out on the Website/Facebook and next week's Newsletter for updates.

U13 Hurling

The U13's lost to a very strong Liam Mellows side in the last round of the Championship last Saturday in the Prairie. We now wait to see who we play in the Shield semi final. Training continues Saturday at 12 noon in the Prairie.

U15 Hurling

Training Saturday at 12 noon in the Prairie.

U17 Hurling

The U17 Hurlers had a good win away to Liam Mellows on Monday night last, in Summer City League. Salthill Knocknacarra 5-19 to 1-16 Liam Mellows

It’s the weather for ducks !!!!! Galway camogie are holding a duck race in Kilreekil this Sunday to raise money for the new pitch. Salthill Knocknacarra camogie have bought 25 ducks so if you are free on Sunday come 'down'  and cheer on our ducks. It should be good 'quack'.
