St Mary's Capture North Leinster Title

St Mary’s Edenderry proved too strong for Boyne Community School in the North Leinster Junior B football final played under lights on the astro turf pitch at St Lomans Mullingar.

Both teams were evenly matched for the opening ten minutes of the first half. Edenderry were first to score when Ryan Caffrey pointed. Trim enjoyed their best moments in the game. Points from Kevin Ryan and Stefan Kelly had them 0-2 to 0-1 up after ten minutes. St Marys then took control of proceedings. Within five minutes the Offaly school were 2-3 to 0-3 ahead. Full foward Glen Doran got in for both goals. By half time Mary’s were well on their way to victory leading 2-8 to 0-5.

Edenderry extended their lead early in the second half with points from Ruairi McNamee and Ryan Caffey. Trim gave themselves a life line when Kevin Ryan’s shot ended up in the Edenderry net. With fifteen minutes gone St Mary’s led 2-10 to 1-5. For the remainder of the half the Offaly school excerted their dominance. Points from Ruairi McNamee (3), Cian McMonagle, full back Luke Flynn and sub David Maloney put the issue beyond doubt. Boyne’s best player on view Kevin Ryan got his teams remaining two points.

After the game Tom O’Donnell presented the North Leinster Junior B shield to St Mary’s captain Ian McKeon.
