St. Patrick's gaelic 4 others play their first match.

November 7, 2018

Gaelic 4 others is a new initiative for ladies who wish to play football for fun and enjoyment in a non competitive environment. Earlier this year many ladies in our parish of Drangan and Cloneen expressed an interest in forming a gaelic 4 others ladies football team. Shane Ivors took up the managers role and training started with the 20 plus ladies who wished to take part.

On Wednesday evening last they played Ballingarry in their first ever game. Any notion that this was just going to be for fun were dismissed as soon as the ball was thrown in as both teams gave  it their all in what was a well fought sporting game. St.Pats started well and had the better of exchanges in the first half. Goals from Sally Duggan and Marie Meaney and points from Camilla Tobin and Fiona Shanahan gave St.Pats a 2-2 to 1-2 lead at half time. Ballingarry fought back well in the second half and when Helen Barrett ended a long run from centre field with a well taken goal there was nothing between the sides. Both sides gave a sigh of relief when referee Paddy Ivors blew the whistle for full time as they had given there all.
In the spirit of the rules for gaelic 4 others of not keeping the score I’m afraid I’m prohibited from giving the final score only to say that both teams were delighted with their performance and everyone enjoyed the game. The evening ended with both teams returning to Amby’s bar for refreshments kindly provided by the Ballingarry club. St.Patrick’s ladies will take great heart from this game and will look forward to their next game with greater confidence.
