St. Patrick’s Ladies GAA Club notes w/c 14th May 2018

November 7, 2018

Under 6, 8 and 10 girls
Training continues on Monday evenings at 7pm in Drangan for our under 6, 8 and 10 girls.

Under 12’s
Our under 12 girls played host to Fethard last Sunday morning in Cloneen. Having celebrated Holy Communion the previous day this match was probably a little too early for some. Fethard were the most composed team early on and notched up some early goals and points to give them a healthy lead As the half progressed our girls steadied themselves and got on the scoreboard before half time with a well taken point by Faye Noonan.
Our girls regrouped at half time and came out a more determined team in the second half. We notched up 2 early points before Fethard got their first score. St Patrick's scored 2 superb goals and defended bravely to keep Fethard scoreless for the remainder of the half. However Fethard's half time lead was enough to see them through on a score line of Fethard 7-6, St. Patrick's 2-3.
Well done to both teams for their marvellous displays of football on such a warm day. Thanks to all 13 girls who lined out this morning especially to our young under 10 Rosie O'Brien who filled in for her big sister Lucy.
Team on the day – Laura Butler, Maria Kerwick, Erin Moroney, Ailish Ryan, Rosie O'Brien, Orlaith McGrath, Sarah Boland(1-1), Sarah Grace, Sarah Byrne, Ailise Fitzgerald, Ella Corbett (1-0), Ami O'Brien and Faye Noonan(0-2).
Our under 12 girls team then played Clonmel Commericals on Sunday evening past in the Poppyfields, Clonmel in next round u12 Championship match. It was great to have a fine team of 19 players available to play this match. The game started well for us and we got a lovely goal thanks to Emily Fox, another goal from Verona Maddigan and 2 points from play. Commercials found the target hard to hit and after a few wides and a terrific save by goalie Laura Butler we were ahead at half time.
The second half didn't go as well for us Commercials seem to get their second wind and we lost a little steam. We still added a goal by Ailise Fitzgerald and two more points but Clonmel Commercials had the lead then and held on to it. Full time score St. Patrick's 3.4 and Clonmel Commercials 4.7.
Team on the day: Laura Butler (c), Anna O' Dwyer, Lucy O'Brien, Sarah Boland, Sarah Grace, Lucy Power, Ailise Fitzgerald, Verona Madigan, Maria Kerwick, Orlaith McGrath, Emily Fox, Ella Corbett, Faye Noonan, Siobhan Hogan, Rachel Cranitch, Leah Horan, Ailish Ryan, Sarah Byrne and Erin Moroney.

Under 14’s
Well done to all our under 14 girls who took part in the Féile Skills competition last Thursday evening in Anner Park Cloneen and special mention to Gemma Gahan who represented the club at the County U14 Feile Skills Test on Sunday past in Arravale Rovers Tipp Town & done really well!

Under 16’s
Our under 16 team played Sliabhnamban away in Ballyneale last Friday evening in their 4th round under 16 match. Several attempts had been made over the past few weeks to play the game due to weather conditions and field availability!
The game was a close affair over the 60 minutes and could have gone either way up to the full time whistle. St. Patrick’s defense were immense in the first half, forcing many turnovers resulting in the Sliabhnamban players having to shoot under pressure.
Half time score: St. Patrick’s 0.4 SliabhnamBan 1.3.
In the second half, St. Patrick’s found it very difficult to get scores but did made a late rally, scoring 1.3 in the last 5 minutes of the game. However, Sliabhnamban held out to win by 2 points, full time score: St. Patrick’s 1.7 SliabhnamBan 1.9.
This result means a quarter / semi final spot, details not known yet, next game won’t be played until after junior cert exams. Team on the evening: Dearbhla Morrissey, Robyn Horan, Katie McCormack (jc), Gemma Gahan, Chloe Healy, Erin O Brien, Aoibheann McGrath, Issy Maher, Rachel Butler, Keelin Ryan, Eimear Boland (jc), Eabha Hogan (0.3f), Aisling Boland, Eabha Fitzgerald (0.1), Jess Strappe (0.1), Siobhan O’Hanlon (1.2), Sadhbh Morrissey, Laura Murphy and Niamh Boland.
Best wishes to the following under 16 girls for their upcoming junior cert exams: Aisling Boland, Eabha Fitzgerald, Katie McCormack, Dearbhla Morrissey, Eimear Boland and Aoibheann McGrath.

Junior Ladies
Our junior Ladies team made the journey to Sean Treacy Park Tipp Town last Monday  evening to play Arravale Rovers Ladiesfc in their third round league fixture. From the get go St. Patrick’s were out of the blocks first, scoring 5 unanswered points in the opening 5 minutes. Arravale Rovers found it difficult to get into the game, as St. Patrick’s defended tigerish throughout and in particular dominated long phases of play in the first half.
The second half was more of a balanced affair, with all 22 St. Patrick’s players getting playing. Arravale Rovers tried hard and scored 8 points in the second half but had too big a lead to catch, with St. Patrick’s running out comfortable winners.
Team: Dearbhla Morrissey, Aileen Sugrue, Sarah Walton, Eadaoin Wilson, Gráinne Fennelly, Maria McGrath (c), Abaigeal Maher
Sarah Mockler and Aileen Kelly, Aoife Doheny, Niamh Martin, Leanne Murphy, Erin O Brien, Niamh Keane, Eabha Hogan, Angela McGuigan, Emily Ruttle, Orlaith O'Hanlon, Ciara Fitzgerald, Aine Ryan, Chloe Griffin and Eimear Boland.

Our junior Ladies now play Moyne Templetuohy in the league semi final this Thursday at 7.30pm in Templetuohy. Best of luck to all players and management team!
