St. Patrick's win county under 21 C football final

November 7, 2018

St. Patrick’s won their first ever county Under 21 C football final by beating Grangemockler in an entertaining game played at Clonmel sportsfield on monday evening last. With wind advantage Grangemockler had most of the possession in the first half but failed to convert their advantage into scores. St.Patrick’s who had to field without Brendan Gleeson and Daniel Riordan due to injuries struggled to get the ball up to their forward line, but when they did, the forwards made good use of it and took some good scores. Grangemockler would have been very disappointed to be trailing by 5 points at half time on a scoreline of St.Patrick’s 2-3 Grangemockler 0-4.

With wind advantage in the second half St. Pats were expected to pull away with this game, but Grangemockler battled hard and were only trailing by 3 points as the game entered the final quarter. St. Patrick’s received a major blow when their captain Gavin Strappe received a second yellow card and was sent to line for a slightly overly enthusiastic challenge on his opponent. However with a player down St. Patrick’s upped their game and started moving the ball better into the forward line who took their scoring chances well. Grangemockler threw everything into attack but found themselves caught out on the counter attack by St.Patrick’s on numerous occasions which yielded goals for the St. Patrick’s men. St. Patrick’s were deserving winners with a final score of  St. Patrick’s 5-8 Grangemockler 0-8.

We congratulate players and management and hope that the St.Patrick’s club can build on this success.
