The March of the Reds

‘The March of the Reds’

Edenderry GAA will hold a Club Wide Fundraising event on Saturday 24th September 2011 incorporating all sections of the Club from Adult to underage and including the Ladies Club called ‘The March of the Reds’.   It is proposed to hold a Sponsored Walk followed by a Street Party on JKL St and the event is open to the whole community.   For the majority of participants the Sponsored Walk will follow the route of Edenderry’s finest amenity – along the bank of the Grand Canal from Edenderry Harbour to the Downshire Bridge and to Ticknevin Lock and back for the more serious walkers.  The Club hopes to turn out in full strength with all members taking part at some level from the youngest Cúl Red to the oldest members in the Club.  It is hoped that all participants will make an effort to wear their club colours for the walk and a staggered start time should allow for all walkers to return to JKL St. around the same time in order to kick off the Street Party.  The Club would also encourage Business owners on JKL Street to display the Club Colours and support foe Edenderry GAA.

All players, mentors and committees will be out in the next few weeks seeking sponsorship from the community for their efforts in the upcoming walk.  Indeed for any keen walkers in Edenderry that would like to participate you are more than welcome and sponsorship cards are available from all team mentors and committee members.  We ask the community to give generously to all our participants if approached over the coming weeks.

With the sponsored walk constituting the first part of the upcoming big day the second part should be a lot of fun.  The Club will be setting up a reception area on the public area opposite Brady’s Spar/Edenderry Post Office on the day.  As all the walkers return during the mid-afternoon on Saturday 24th the Street Party will commence.  The finer details of the Street Party are being finalised at present however it is expected that there will be live music, BBQ and numerous street performers with plenty of activities for young children.  The fun activities will continue for the afternoon and it is expected to finish up around 6pm on the Saturday evening.  Later that night there will be a social event in the Oakwood Inn for the all of the Adult members of the Club.

The organising committee will continue to meet every Thursday at 8pm in the GAA centre right up until the week of the event, if people are interested in getting involved you are more than welcome to join us.  There will be continuing updates published in the local press in the coming weeks and also check our website and Facebook page for more information.
