Munster Under 17 Football (Darrel Darcy Cup) Final – Tipperary 0-12 Clare 0-10
Tipperary defeated Clare by 0-12 to 0-10 in the Munster Under 17 Football (Darrel Darcy Cup) Final on Monday October 27th at the Gaelic Grounds Limerick. Well done to Conor Clancy, Cathal Mahoney and Aiden Buckley (pictured above) who were part of the Tipperary under 17 football team that won this tournment . St. Patrick's Gaa club are very proud to have three of it's players on this county team. Well done lads!
Junior Football
Attention turned to football for our Junior players last weekend when they took on Loughmore/Castleiney in the County Quarter final in Littleton. Injuries deprived us of a couple of key players for the game but we were still hoping to have enough to get through to the semi final. We played against a strong breeze in the first half and Loughmore made use of the wind when they ran into a 4 point lead. However our lads quickly fought back to draw level with a goal coming from Aidan Buckley. Loughmore made use of the wind for the remainder of the half and went in leading 9 points to 1-1. With the wind at our backs for the second half we were quick out of the blocks and were back level after a few minutes after an excellent display of point kicking. We soon went ahead after a Mark Mullally shot somehow found its way to the back of the net. A couple of more points and we were ahead by 5 points. We failed to kick on from there though and we were made to pay as Loughmore responded with 2 goals of their own, the first from a penalty and also a point to go 2 in front with only a couple of minutes left. We managed to get it back to 1 point but unfortunately we ran out of time and Loughmore won on a scoreline of 2-11 to 2-10. We would like to thank our management and players for all their effort throughout the year and its a pity that they didn't get the rewards that their time and effort deserved. Hopefully they can use the hurt from the last 2 weekends to push on next year. Due to injury and illness Darren Meagher, Robbie McCormack and Neil Gleeson were unable to line out.
Our Junior footballers will be back in action on this Wednesday 29th Oct when they play Fr. Sheehys in the semi final of the Co. League at 8.00 in Newcastle.
Under 21 hurling
Attention turned to U21 hurling last weekend when our lads played a Grangemockler/Davins combination in Monroe on Sunday last. We played with the aid of a strong wind and got off the mark with 2 quick goals. Our lads were finding scores easy to come by in the first half and went in at half time leading on a scoreline of 4-12 to 0-4. We were on the back foot for most of the second half as Grangemockler/Davins made use of the wind. They got a couple of early goals in the half but they needed more to get back to within touching distance of us and a further goal late in the second half for our lads gave us a victory on a scoreline of 5-13 to 3-6. The team on the day was: Darren Boland, Ciarán Mockler, Ronan Fitzgerald, Brian Healy, Cathal Mahoney, Nicky Kearney, Conor Clancy, Brian Delahunty, Dylan Fitzgerald, Mark Mullally, Cathal Hurley, Robbie Meagher, Brendan Gleeson, Aidan Buckley, Ciarán O Meara. Minor Hurling
Our minor hurlers play Mullinahone on this Saturday 1st November at 12.00 in Ned Hall Park Clonmel.
South Regional Under 14 Hurling Tournament. Michael O Dwyer Memorial Cup
In an effort to give players of small clubs an opportunity to play at "A" level hurling Skeheenarinky and St. Patrick’s put a motion to the south bng to set up a tournment with "A" teams and regional teams made up from small clubs. Discussed at the adjourned AGM and adopted by the Delegates of South Bord na nOg, The South Regional U14 Hurling Tournament was born.
It was agreed that in order for this Tournament to have any ‘puck’ at all, it would need to have some value and prestige attached to it and no better way to do this than to have a Trophy dedicated to someone who contributed enormously to the Juvenile Board in South Division. No better person to honour in it’s fruition than the Late Michael O Dwyer of Fethard.
All that remained was to set it up, with the expertise and hard work of our New GDA, Paudie Malone along with the co-operation of all participating Clubs, it was agreed that the A teams of, St. Mary’s, Moyle Rovers, Ballingarry, Cahir & Carrick Swans would play the combination teams of(Newcastle/Skeheenarinky/Ballylooby/Fr.Sheehy’s/Ballybacon Grange), (Kilsheelan, Grangemockler Ballyneale/Carrick Davins), (Clonmel Og/Clerihan) & (Killenaule/Fethard/St.Patrick’s) in a Group Phase, starting on Thursday 4th September on a home and away basis. Followed by a knockout phase and Final
The St. Patrick's combo played Ballingarry, St. Marys and Moyle Rovers in the league stage and defeated all three to book a semi-final spot against Ballingarry last sunday. With the aid of the wind in the first half our combo built up a good lead and led by 3 goals at half-time 3-3 to 0-3. Another goal on the restart put them 12 points ahead but unfortunately it all went wrong from here in. Ballingarry scored two soft goals from long range frees which gave them the momentum for a great come back. Our combo had several chances to finish out this game and these missed chances were to prove very costly as Ballingarry added another two goals which got them back on level terms before a point in injury time gave them a deserved victory. It was a bitter disappointing end to the game as our lads came to terms with how they let a 12 point lead dissappear. Overall this competition was a great experience for our lads and all players of small clubs who are confined to playing "B" or "C" hurling due to lack of numbers. St. Patrick's had 10 players on the panel with all 10 playing their part during the tournment. The ten players were Adam Cuddihy, Eoin Ryan, Seán Ryan, Dale Murphy, Conor Duggan, Pauric O’Brien, Frank Meagher, James Fitzgerald and Dara Hall and Jack Meagher. Thanks to all the players and to selector Colm Duggan for the time and effort they put into this competition.
This finishs our under 14s action for this year. It has been a long year with some great excitement having won the football and hurling south finals. Having reached the county final in both codes there was disappointment when they narrowly lost out in both finals. We thank the players for the effort and enjoyment they have given their supporters during the year. I have know doubt that if this group of players stick together they will have more good days in years to come.
