Tractor Run

Tractor Run

A very successful tractor run was held in Drangan on Sunday December 29th with around eighty tractors taking part. The tractor run was organised to raise funds for St. Patrick’s National School, Drangan to purchase ipads for use in the school. The day was cold but thankfully the rain stayed away which was very important for the people who had come on vintage tractors as most of these had no cab.
The tractors gathered in Slattery’s field before heading of on a run up to the two trees at Wilford, down to Mullinahone, onto Cloneen and back to Drangan. The tractors ranged from the very vintage to the almost new with everything in between. The oldest tractor on the run was Paddy Power’s 1954 Grey Massey Ferguson. This 20 horsepower tractor which was the most common tractor on farms in the 1950’s and 60’s was in huge contrast to Richie White’s 230 horsepower Massey 6499 which has the comfort of heated air conditioning, cab suspension, computerised controls and GPS technology for field work guidance. One can only wonder how tractors will advance in another 50 years.
On arriving back in Drangan everyone was treated to soup and sandwiches which was well appreciated and a huge thanks to the ladies. The day was enjoyed by everyone who took part and huge credit to those who organised and marshalled the event.
